For centuries, communities in East Anglia have shared tales of Black Shuck, the ghostly demon dog that stalks the coastline and countryside.
The origin of Shuck stretches back to 4th August 1577, when during a mighty thunderstorm an apparition of Black Shuck - the devil himself - appeared to worshippers at St Mary’s Church in Bungay, Suffolk. Since then, the dog has been sighted hundreds of times across the region. Those that see him are said to face their death within a single year. This publication explores the legend and legacy over the last century.
