Free Comic Book Day 2023 at Gosh!

It's here! Another year has passed and the momentous day that holds a special place in our hearts has arrived once again. We've got big plans for this year and promise to make Free Comic Book Day at Gosh! an explosive day packed with fun activities. FCBD will be taking place on Saturday 6th May 2023.

Before we get into anything else, Free Comic Book Day will, of course, be a day to grab some comics released exclusively for the day. Much in the spirit of record store day, this is a great way to introduce new readers to the medium of comics and to bring existing fans something to enjoy! We'll be trying to reduce in-store congestion by distributing the comics in blind bags of 5, available free with a purchase. You can see the full selection of titles available on the day by clicking here.

We like to celebrate the festivities a little more here. So, starting from the moment we open, which is even slightly earlier than usual at 10am, we'll be hosting a selection of kids workshops and signings that will run all through the day. They'll be even be a selection of our favourite local artists decorating our windows with paintings of the comic characters that they grew up with! Our window painters will be Yetunde Ekuntuyi, Clio Isadora, Shane Melisse, Olivia Sullivan, Claude TC and Yoyo the Ricecorpse.

Our kids workshop will give the chance for children aged 6-12 to sit down and draw with a bunch of our invited comics artists!

Kicking off our kids workshop from 10am, we welcome our friends over at Bog Eyed Books. They'll be here with a handful of their artists including Tor Freeman, Alexander Matthews, Gary Northfield and Woodrow Phoenix.

Following that, from 11am, Flying Eye Presents a special workshop with artist Alexis Deacon, creator of the fantasy adventure series, Curse of the Chosen!

And to finish our kids workshop, at 12pm we welcome the talented Takayo Akiyama, who drew the wonderful series of educational Thames & Hudson books entitled So You Want to be a...

Then from 1pm, we start our set of three signings for the day. At 1pm, we welcome the acclaimed writer Ram V!

At 2pm, we're joined by Ian Edginton and D'Israeli signing to celebrate the release of The Best of 2000AD Volume 3.

At 3pm, we welcome back CROM, creator of Birdking, to finish our signings and round-off this incredibly eventful day.

We can't wait to welcome all of these amazing creators to the shop and we can't wait for you to be here to experience another Free Comic Book Day to remember. So keep the date in your diaries, Saturday 6th May 2023, from 10am.
