The Gosh! Authority 02.03.22

Hello!

The big announcement this week is about our events programme, which is is slowly but surely coming back to life! We've recently announced a signing for Antoine Cossé's new masterpiece, Metax, which is happening on Saturday March 19th, from 1-2pm (details here), and we have a whole heap of events in the planning stages that are going to be announced soon, including Free Comic Book Day! Watch this space (or any of our various social media feeds) for more news soon.

We recently bought in a big collection of second hand graphic novels, so if you haven't checked our recycled books section in a while then it's well worth a look. Lots of bargains and hard-to-find editions.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • BATMAN KILLING TIME #1 - Tom King just can't kick the Bat! Here he teams up with artist David Marquez as a younger Bruce Wayne deals with a villainous cabal consisting of Catwoman, the Riddler and Penguin (and apparently Killer Croc, though he never gets a mention in the publicity material. Poor guy just can't catch a break.) King promises a propulsive, action-packed heist story, something of a departure from the introspective psychodramas of his run on the main title. Six punchy issues start here!

  • STRANGE #1 - In the wake of the Death of Doctor Strange, Clea now holds the mantle of Sorceror Supreme. She wants to find a way to raise Stephen from the dead, but first she has more pressing magical menaces to deal with in an all new ongoing by DODS writer Jed McKay and artist Marcelo Ferriera. Nice to see Clea get some time to shine, however long it may last!

  • RADIO SPACEMAN #1 - A two-parter featuring an all-new Mike Mignola character who originated in the daily sketches Mignola was doing early in the pandemic. Totally disconnected from any of his other universes and featuring art by Greg Hinkle, this looks like a bit of a treat. Strange science hero Radio Spaceman heads to a mysterious planet on a rescue mission to save a crash-landed crew.

  • 7174 ANNUAL #1 - A collection of short pieces done over the years by T.P. Louise and Ashley Wood including strips such as Ashtro Lad, Les Mort 13, World War Robot, Adventure Kartel. We don't tend to get a lot of readily available Ashley Wood comics work these days, so getting this bumper 88-page edition is a bit of a treat!

  • WAR FOR EARTH-3 #1 - The opening salvo of a crossover through Suicide Squad, Teen Titans Academy and Flash! Dennis Hopeless, Robbie Thompson, Steve Pugh, Dexter Soy & Brent Peeples kick things off as Amanda Waller attempts to take control of the home to the Crime Syndicate - twisted, villainous versions of the JLA (as if you didn't know). Task Force X, the Titans and the Flash are on her trail, coming fist to face with Ultraman and co.

  • WHAT IF - MILES MORALES #1 - I'm as much of a sucker for a What If tales as the next dedicated Marvel reader, but a What If without the central question in the title of the comic? It makes my damn skin crawl! Err, anyway, What If - Miles Morales (aka What if Miles Morales Became Captain America - not so hard, is it Marvel?) charts a world in which Miles wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider, but was recruited by the military and given the super soldier serum. Plus a tour of the other heroes a multiversal Miles might have become. And that's not an excuse for the title: many What Ifs of the past had back-up stories and I just...just...y'know what? Never mind. What If - Miles Morales, by Cody Ziglar and Paco Medina: give it a look.

  • ROGUE SUN #1 - The Image superhero universe occupied by Radiant Black adds another hero courtesy of Ryan Parrott and singular Abel. A young man, Dylan Siegal, discovers that his estranged father, recently deceased, was Rogue Sun, the supernatural protector of New Orleans. In attempting to solve his father's murder, Dylan must take up the mantle of the Rogue Sun, and defend the legacy of a man he's hated most of his life.

And that's your lot for this week! See you next week, same(ish) Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

Andrew.
