The Gosh! Authority 02.04.25

Hello!

il-fullxfull.4178896439-nqsa.jpg

We've been doing a stock take! How's your week?

Happy to report that last week's Image books are with us this week, but not so thrilled to report that the ones due this week are not! This looks to be an ongoing issue for the time being, but hopefully they'll sort something soon.

Not a massive week, but plenty to write about, so let's get stuck in!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

large-3632937.jpg

  • DAREDEVIL COLD DAY IN HELL #1 - An absolutely stunning looking mini by Charles Soule and Steve McNiven, which sees an aged Matt Murdock come out of retirement after an old threat resurfaces. Old Man Daredevil! McNiven looks to be seriously channeling Elektra Lives Again-era Frank Miller, and I don't think any of us will complain about that.

  • ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN #1 - Green Lantern joins the Absolute Universe courtesy of Al Ewing (who you know is going to bring some oddball cosmic brilliance) and Jahnoy Lindsay. Abin Sur is coming to Earth, and his arrival will overturn the lives of Hal Jordan and Jo Mullein. Expect to have all the old lore of the Lanterns overturned.

  • RESURRECTION MAN QUANTUM KARMA #1 - Didn't see this coming: Ram V and Anand RK bring back the Resurrection Man, the late-90s creation of Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning & Butch Guice. I don't think we've seen Mitch Shelley, a man who returns with a new superpower every time he dies, since the New 52 days. Don't worry if you've never heard of him, though, this Black Label mini is very much delivered with the unfamiliar reader in mind, as Mitch bounces through time to take on a menace that he will create.

  • WE'RE TAKING EVERYONE DOWN WITH US #1 - Matthew Rosenberg teams up with Stefano Landini for a new ongoing science fiction tale featuring a recently orphaned young girl and her father's bodyguard robot looking for purpose (and possibly revenge and world conquest). Sounds like a good vehicle for Rosenberg's usual deft mix of pathos and humour.

  • UNIVERSAL MONSTERS THE MUMMY #1 - The next of Skybound's Universal Monster retellings, this one written and drawn by Faith Erin Hicks. A woman with a haunted past is drawn back to an Egyptian dig site, where she presumably has a lovely time enjoying the sunny weather, good food, and archaeological wonders.

  • KIDS #1 - Garth Ennis and Dalibor Talajic are tapping into some parental anxieties with this oversized one-shot where the world's children under the age of 1 are suddenly replaced with psychotic, violent adults. Sounds like Crossed for parents.

  • DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL U ONE MORE TIME #1 - Cullen Bunn & Dalibor Talajić take the Merc With a Mouth on one last salvo against the Marvel multiverse. He's slicing up all manner of twisted versions of your Marvel favourites in what has always been one of the most fun takes on Deadpool that I've read.

  • POLIS (ONE SHOT) - You're not going to believe this, but Mark Russell has written a science fiction story that relates to things that are going on in our current world! Which is fine, because he's very good at it, and to be fair, it also seems to not be going down quite as broad a satirical route as he often takes. In the not too distant future, a floating city is created for refugees who are feeling climate change and war. A young teen makes the trip from Florida. Will it be everything she has hoped?

  • YOU'LL DO BAD THINGS #1 - A literary thriller by Tyler Boss & Adriano Turtulici where a writer can't seem to escape stories with grisly endings, despite his efforts to do so. And it's all the worse for the fact that those terrible events are all starting to happen.

large-3365929.jpg

  • PLAGUE HOUSE #1 (OF 4) - Three paranormal invesigators explore a house that was the scene of a grisly murder. A seemingly ordinary, loving father and husband murdered his family, a crime for which he sits on death row, and the group is searching for possible supernatural answers for the killings. But what they discover is no ordinary haunting, but rather something that might find further expression in the American culture of violence. Michael W. Conrad and Dave Chisholm deliver and intriguing looking mini.

  • IRONHEART BAD CHEMISTRY #1 - A new one-shot by John Jennings and Jethro Morales that I can't help but feel is intended to tie into the upcoming Disney+ series, but that's still two months away, so it feels a little early! Anyway, Riri Williams fans can take solace in a new story featuring Ironheart taking on Khem, a villain with ties to a classic Iron Man rogue.

large-8020533.jpg

  • CONCERT OF CHAMPIONS #1 - A barmy-looking pop-themed one-shot by Jason Loo, Ruairí Coleman and Rafael Loureiro. Dazzler, Lila Cheney and Luna Snow throw a huge concert, including celebrity hero guests. But their plans are disrupted (man, why are people always disrupting plans?) by a sinister metal band named Deep Void. Heavy metal baddies!

large-2576179.jpg

  • MOON GIRL & DEVIL DINOSAUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY SPECTACULAR #1 - Brandon Montclare & Natacha Bustos celebrate the 10th anniversary of their co-creation with a party! But Lunella Lafayette's plans go awry when the Impossible Man shows up with hijinks in mind. Some good, silly fun!

large-2120020.jpg

  • MARVEL RIVALS #1 - A tie-in to the ultra-popular video game of the same name. This reprints a previously digitally-released story that ties into the game lore, with Paul Allor and Luca Claretti on creative duties. Plus it comes with a code to get an in-game spray, so if you're a fan of the game, what's to lose?

large-7957873.jpg

  • MONEY SHOT BIG BANG #0 - The return of Tim Seeley and his merry crew of space-exploring pornographers with new artist Garth Graham making his debut, and new co-writer Patton Oswalt jumping on board!

And that's me done! At last! Until next week, anyway...

Andrew.
