The Gosh! Authority 02.06.21

Hello!

Hope you're all having a good bank holiday weekend, the first in a while that might actually feel like a holiday! We are of course open throughout the weekend, so do pop down and say hi. And of course, it wouldn't be a bank holiday without a shipping delay! Whee! Yes, the delivery will be arriving on Wednesday to go straight out, so best to give us a shout before heading in to make sure things are on the shelf. We'll get it processed as quick as we can, but we've no idea what time it will actually arrive. Keep an eye on our social media, where we'll make an announcement as soon as it gets in.

On with the comics!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • THE HELLFIRE GALA - The latest X-event (one like no other, it must be said) kicks off this week in HELLIONS #12, MARAUDERS #21 & X-FORCE #20. The Hellfire Trading Company throw the first Hellfire Gala, a star-studded gathering where the future direction of mutantkind will be decided, including the announcement of the new X-Men, the first actual team to use the moniker since the Hickman era began. Unlike X of Swords, the 12 chapters of the crossover are pretty self-contained to their respective titles, so I won't be copying orders over for each issue as I did for XoS (apart from the Planet-Sized X-Men centrepiece). Be sure to let me know if you want any of the titles that aren't on your usual order.

  • BASILISK #1 - A new series by horror comics king Cullen Bunn and artist Jonas Scharf. Regan is one of a Chimera, five psychically linked supernatural beings who unleash destruction on small towns across America, each using a different sense-based power to spread terror. Burdened by guilt over her past, Regan has bound her deadly eyes and now hunts her former comrades.

  • EVE SC - The latest graphic novel from acclaimed creator Una. A grounded tale of a dystopian near-future which has slid into intolerant authoritarianism. Eve's life is overturned in the wake of a tragedy, forcing her to find some new way of living in this nightmarish, all-too possible future. It's a book that poses a lot of questions to the reader about the choices we must make around what kind of society we really want.

  • NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #1 - A new horror series by James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez Bueno that looks pretty great from what little I've seen. A group of people are invited to a lakeside mansion, their only connection being their host, Walter. They've all known Walter at some point in their lives, and although he was always a little odd, none of them were going to pass up the opportunity to get away after the worst year of their lives. But....wait for it...things aren't quite what they seem, and Walter has his own sinister reasons for bringing them all to....THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE! (Dum-dum-DAAAAH!)

  • THE CONJURING THE LOVER #1 - Speaking of new horror comics, just in time for the release of the new Conjuring movie, DC kick off their new DC Horror imprint with this Conjuring spin-off mini-series. Acting as a prelude to the new film, the story follows Jessica, a young woman who returns home after a less-than ideal first year at University and finds herself the target of dark forces. Conjuring 2 screenwriter Daniel Johnson-McGoldrick and Rex Ogle write, with Garry Brown on art. There's also a back-up story spotlighting an item from the Warren's ghostly artifact room by Scott Snyder and Denys Cowan.

  • HEROES REBORN AMERICAN KNIGHTS #1 - Paul Grist and Christopher Allen tell a tale of the Heroes Reborn world featuring Detective Luke Cage. Vigilantes are outlawed in the world of the Squadron Supreme, but there's a man called the Saint (who has a very familiar horn-cowled look) dispensing violent justice to those who escape the law. It's up to Cage to take him down.

  • HEROES REBORN MARVEL DOUBLE ACTION #1 - Another slice of What If The Squadron Supreme Ruled The Marvel Universe fun from Tim Seeley and Dan Jurgens. A familiar story with a Heroes Reborn twist as Nighthawk relives the night his sidekick and best friend Sam Wilson was killed at the hands of the Green Goblin!

  • CRUSH & LOBO #1 - She's quit the Teen Titans and her relationship has hit the rocks, so Crush does the only thing a teen can do in those kind of situations: head into space to break her infamous dad out of prison so she can give him a piece of her mind. Mariko Tamaki & Amancay Nahuelpan bring the no-doubt poignant family drama.

  • WORST DUDES #1 (OF 5) - A bit of bad-taste sci-fi fun from Aubrey Sitterson and Tony Gregory. A dirty cop, a drugged-up back-up dancer, and an angsty adolescent god must team up to solve the case of a missing pop star. If they can stop from killing each other first.

And that's it for this week, folks! See you next time!

Andrew.
