The Gosh! Authority 02.09.20

Hello!

Quick reminder that the delivery will be having its usual post-Bank Holiday late arrival. We'll be receiving everything on Wednesday to go out, so don't expect things to be out until lunchtime at the earliest (depending on the mercies of TNT).

We've recently bought in a terrific collection of graphic novels and zines from an ex-comics retailer (not of these shores) with exceptional taste. Plenty of out of print, difficult to find editions in there at very good prices. These are going to be making their way on sale over the next week or so, both in-store and on our now-reactivated Facebook selling page. I'll be carving out a special spot in the shop for them, so keep your eyes peeled. We've also got a large amount of French and Portuguese language books out on the benches upstairs at knockdown prices. Even if you comprehend neither, the art alone on them is worth the price of admission.

Speaking of that Facebook group, if you want some great bargains on unusual books and lovely back issues, sign up now, as we'll be starting to list things again!

And lastly, Gilbert Hernandez fans will be happy to hear that Psychodrama Illustrated #1 will be shipping this week, so if you've held off reading that #2 we got back in May, the hour is nigh!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY'RE DEAD #1 - One of our most-anticipated titles of the year, Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo's sci-fi horror story is off to a fantastic start with this issue (that we've been lucky enough to read an advance pdf of). An obsessive captain, a rogue agent, and the mysteries of dead space gods all make for a heady brew.

  • TEEN TITANS BEAST BOY TP - Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo return with a follow-up to their massive hit, Teen Titans: Raven. As with that book, it's a YA re-imagining of the origins of Teen Titans stalwart Beast Boy, aka Garfield Logan,in a story about friendship, belonging, and learning to be happy with who you are.

  • POWERS THE BEST EVER HC - Tricky one, this. Originally billed as an original graphic novel, then described as a reprint edition with some extra material, it now looks as though it's some hybrid of the two. It is, as we now understand it, the actual finish of the Powers saga, with a lot of new comics material, as well as elements of the last two issues of the monthly. It's also packed with a bunch of backmatter for Powers fans. My original plan was to file this for all Powers orders, but as it's a £22.99 hardcover and many may prefer to stump for a less pricey eventual softcover, I'm not going to. So if you'd like this in HC please let me know ASAP, as I might need to get an urgent reorder in!

  • BE GAY DO COMICS TP - A massive anthology of queer comics from The Nib, ranging from historical narrative to broad satire to scathingly honest memoir. Features more than 30 cartoonists including Hazel Newlevant, Joey Alison Sayers, Maia Kobabe, Matt Lubchansky, Breena Nuñez, Sasha Velour, Shing Yin Khor, Levi Hastings, Mady G, Bianca Xunise, Kazimir Lee, and more!

  • BLACK WIDOW #1 - An all new series in time for the new movie! Kelly Thompson & Elena Casagrande bring the goods for a new series starring super-spy Natasha Romanoff. Can't get enough of Thompson's writing, so I'll be having a read of this on Wednesday evening.

  • HELLBLAZER RISE AND FALL #1 (OF 3) - Given they're cancelling the main series, this is a rather curious move: a three-issue John Constantine mini-series. I guess Tom Taylor is a bit of a golden boy at DC right now, and if he and Darick Robertson wanted to do a Hellblazer story, well why not? Anyway, it's proper Vertigo-styled JC, so we're happy to have it.

  • OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE SC & HC VOL 50 - The 50th Anniversary edition of the big daddy of price guides! As ever, it packed with features, guides and, of course, prices! Many is the hour I spent in my teens poring over my battered Overstreet...

  • MARVEL ZOMBIES RESURRECTION #1 (OF 4) - Continuing the re-imagining of the MZ franchise that began in last year's one-shot. Phillip Kennedy Johnson & Leonard Kirk pick up where they left off for this 4 issue mini.

  • DAREDEVIL ELEKTRA LOVE & WAR GALLERY EDITION HC - A lovely, oversized hardcover edition of the Miller / Sienkiewicz classics Daredevil Love & War and Elektra Assassin!

And that's that! Take care, folks, and I'll see you next week.

Andrew.
