Hello!

acid-box-600.jpg

This week sees the launch party for Acid Box, the new anthology from our friends at Avery Hill, masterminded by Sara Kenney. Sara will be here along with James Devlin, Sofie Dodgson, Alison Sampson and Joe Stone to ceebrate the release. Details here!

I'm back! But let's not get sentimental, there are comics to talk about...

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • BATMAN #1 - Holy Matt Fraction, Batman! The multi-award-winning writer starts his run here with a shiny new #1, joined by Bat-favourite artist Jorge Jiménez. What's the story, what's the hook, what's the high concept? Who knows? It's Matt Fraction! Writing Batman! Writing any comics at all! Very exciting. Even I'm excited, and I'm Bat-bivalent at the best of times.

  • CLOSER #1 - Bit of a one-two punch this week as we also get this one-shot from Kieron Gillen, Steve Lieber and Tamra Bonvillain, previously only available serialised in the Image anniversary anthology. It's the best cosmic horror romance you're likely to read this year.

  • EVERYTHING DEAD AND DYING #1 - And then a promising little zombie number from Tate Brombal and Jacob Phillips. When the zombie apocalypse hits, Jack chooses to live among the undead of his small town, caring for his family. Fine and dandy, but it all gets a bit tricky when outsiders arrive, who have a decidedly different view of the living dead.

  • ADVENTURE TIME BUBBLINE COLLEGE SPECIAL #1 - Indie comics superstar Caroline Cash crafts an alternate universe Princess Bubblegum & Marceline special! PG has started at Ooo University, and boy is it tough. But luckily she can rely on her pal (and maybe more) Marceline to help her through it all!

    • WHITE HOUSE ROBOT ROMANCE #1 - Chip Zdarsky and Rachael Stott spin a tale of robots on the run. In an unspecified future the USA and Canada are at war, and when two lovebird White House service robots decide to run away together they spark a ruthless robot-hunt. Their crime? Carrying sensitive US information that could tip the balance of the war.

    • ADVENTURES OF LUMEN N #1 - A new steampunk adventure series from James Robinson and Phil Hester, starring the 13-year old granddaughter of Captain Nemo. Expect thrills, adventure, and the most Victorian literature cameos you're going to see this side of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!

    • ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN BOOK OF EL #1 - Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scott Godlewski get the chance to finish their Superman story which began in the pages of Future State Superman House of El and continued into Johnson's Action Comics run.

    • IMPERIAL WAR EXILES #1 - Another Imperial one-shot, this one courtesy of Jonathan Hickman, Steve Foxe and Francesco Manna. Professor X, Lilandra Neramani and their group of rebels come to the aid of Lilandra's daughter, Xandra, Majestrix of the Shi'ar empire.

    • SPIDER-MAN 94 #1 - Another of the "Hey, what if we continued the story of that 90's cartoon everyone loved?" club. But hey, it's written by J. M. DeMatteis (with art by Jim Towe), so I'll give it a pass and enjoy some retro Spidey. "Spider blood. Spider blood. Radioactive spider blood."

    • ARTIFICIAL #1 - An erotic sci-fi thriller from erotic thriller queen Maria Llovet. Fashion stylist Clara's dreams of a drama-free partner in the shape of an android dating service go badly wrong. Turns out androids can be obsessive, controlling creeps as well!

      • SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH MAGIC UNLEASHED #1 - A collection of reprints and brand new Sabrina material (proper kids Sabrina material) from the Archie gang!

        • JUNGLE #1 - Keenan Marshall Keller and Tom Neely's ape biker saga returns, with The Humans banged up, and adjusting to life behind bars.

And that's it! See you next week, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

        Andrew.
