The Gosh! Authority 04.12.24
Hello!
Welcome to the downhill sleigh ride to Christmas!
We've got out final two events for the year this Saturday. First up, from 1-2pm, we'll have Emma Vicelli here signing to celebrate the release of Breaks Volume 3, the latest collection of her groundbreaking series! A good Christmas present if you've any fans of Heartstopper around the house. Details here.
And then, speaking of third volumes, CROM will be here from 2-3pm to sign copies of Birdking Volume 3! And be sure to check out his swish new window painting he did for us last week as well, that lad can certainly paint a window! Details here.
And in case you missed it, last Friday we announced our Best of 2024 lists! You can find the Adult list here, and the Kids and Young Adult list here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- TWO-FACE #1 (OF 6) - Christian Ward sits in the writer's chair for a mini-series starring his favourite Bat-villain, alongside artist Fabio Veras (his first of two appearances this week). Harvey has treatied between his two halves, and is now working with some of Gotham's worst criminals to help them find justice. It's Two Face: Attorney-At-Law!
- HERETIC HC - Robbie Morrison and Charlie Adlard, creators of the classic White Death graphic novel, reunite for a book that's been five years in the making. It's 1529, and after a series of murders rocks Antwerp, German knight, lawyer, physician and occultist Heinrich Cornelius Aggripa is enlisted by the Inquisition to investigate. Aggripa is a fascinating character from history, so using him as a kind of occult Sherlock Holmes sounds like a fun ride to me.
- CHRISTMAS 365 #1 - Mikey Way and Jon Rivera join artist Piotr Kowalski for the most wonderful time of the year, every day! The Rockwells have had a terrible year, so what better way to shake off their trouble than celebrating Christmas every day? That couldn't turn out badly, right?
- LONG COLD WINTER #1 (OF 4) - Francesca Perillo and Stefano Cardoselli return with a new sci-fi vision. Earth's atmosphere is blighted, and mega-corporations provide ocygen to those with the wealth to afford it. An ex-soldier desperate for air and on the run from bounty hunters find a job that might solve all his problems: escort a robot child out of the city. I love Cardoselli's artwork, with its gritty cartoonishness. Looking forward to this.
- DCS BATMAN SMELLS ROBIN LAID AN EGG #1 & MARVEL HOLIDAY TALES TO ASTONISH #1 - It's a festive throwdown! Marvel pits the Fantastic Four, Kitty Pryde, Peter Parker and Miles Morales against DC's line-up of Dr Midnight, Deadman and a world without the Joker (ala It's a Wonderful Life). Who wins? Will you choose Marvel? DC? Both? Neither? You decide! (Choose both!)
- JUVENILE #1 (OF 5) - A dystopian sci-fi written and drawn by director Jesús Orellana. In the near future, teens are locked up in huge facilities, ostensibly being kept safe from a deadly virus that kills those who hit adulthood. A group who are determined to escape learn the truth behind their captivity: the virus is actually giving them superpowers, and the adults are terrified.
- DREAD THE HALLS (ONE-SHOT) - You thought October would see the back of horror anthologies? You ignored the deep, rich tradition of Christmas horror! So here's one more shake of the spooky stick with Chris Ryall, Jordan Hart, Lee Ferguson, Walter Pax and Fabio Veras!
- DEADPOOL WOLVERINE WEAPON X-TRACTION #1 - A collection of the backup strip that ran through a number of Marvel titles. It's a time/space hopping adventure to scratch that movie itch courtesy of Ryan North & Javier Garrón.
And that's me done for another week!
Andrew.
