Expect tales of pirates, ghosts, giant monsters and more in a collection of stories by gay creators that attempts to recapture the crazy golden era of romance comics. Grab a copy this Saturday and get it by Oliver, Joe and Hamish! Details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- BATMAN #125 - The much-anticipated debut of Chip Zdarsky as the new ongoing Batman writer is here! The perfect jumping-on point for lapsed Bat-fans and Zdarskylites alike, the acclaimed writer is joined by Jorge Jiminez, who makes a welcome return to the title. Bruce Wayne is haunted by dreams of a dark future for Gotham and someone is targeting the cities billionaires in a brutal murder spree.
- STARHENGE BOOK ONE #1 - British comics legend Liam Sharp writes and draws this ambitious new saga, a 30-year passion project of his, incorporating elements of Arthurian myth and dark science fiction. Starhenge follows a future Merlin as he follows killer robots back to 5th Century England in an attempt to stop them elliminating magic from the world. We're also introduced to Amber, a woman in the present day who is drawn into this temporal war. It's certainly visually impressive, with fully painted art and innovative layouts and storytelling.
- MIND MGMT BOOTLEG #1 - Mind MGMT is back! Well, actually Matt Kindt's mind-bending tale of covert psychic operatives has been ticking away in the world of crowdfunding since it left the regular publishing slate, but now we can stock it again! The launch title of Kindt's new Flux imprint at Dark Horse, and he's brought the singular talent that is Farel Dalrymple along for the ride. Very excited for this!
- PROMETHEE 13:13 #1 - Andy Diggle and Shawn Martinborough bring us a prequel to the Christoph Bec classic Promethee with this series that sets the stage for the events of the first volume (currently only available digitally, but hopefully in print soon!) A young woman is plagued by memories of an alien abduction, an alien menace stirs on the far side of the moon, and a space shuttle travels to its grim destiny.
- ASOLUTION #1 - In a dark future, a professional killer is given the opportunity to redeem herself for the terrible acts she has comitted, all live-streamed for the entertainment of the public. The catch? If she fails to gain forgiveness in a month, then the bombs implanted in her head will detonate. Fun stuff from Peter Milligan and Mike Deodato.
- BLACK ADAM THE JUSTICE SOCIETY FILES HAWKMAN #1 - The first in a series of prequels to the upcoming Black Adam movie. In this issue we get a tale of the cinematic Hawkman, with some context around his history and the JSA. Then we travel back to ancient Kahndaq where Teth-Adam and his son experience something that reverberates through to present day, forever changing the life of Adrianna Tomaz.
- THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH PATRICK TODD #1 - A young psychic runaway uses his powers to survive and pay for his mother's medical care, forcing criminals to give him their ill-gotten gains before turning themselves in. But now the police have his scent, and he's caught the eye of a mysterious serial killer who is determined to hunt him down. A thriller by Ed Brisson and Gavin Guidry.
- PRODIGY THE ICARUS SOCIETY #1 - Mark Millar's smartest creation returns, this time with artist Matteo Buffagni. But has Edison Crane met his match? The members of the Icarus Society, a club of super-geniuses, certainly think so.
And that's it! See you next week!
