The Gosh! Authority 06.09.23
Hello!
Andrew is still away, so you’ll have to make do with me once again. Look, don’t let it get to you mate! It’s a quiet week on the comics front, but events-wise we’ve got the ENTIRE team from Image hit Damn Them All coming in to sign copies of the first volume this Saturday, 9th September, 1-2pm! Join Simon Spurrier, Charlie Adlard, Sofie Dodgson, Jim Campbell and Tom Muller for what’s sure to be a sell-out signing! Get details here.
Looking ahead to next weekend, we have artist Keith Page in the shop, signing copies of Hancock: The Lad Himself from 1pm. Join us for this unique look at the life of legendary British comedian Tony Hancock from publisher B7. Get the details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- MORE BONE TALL TALES GN - The release of a new Bone volume is about as big a deal as comics big deals come, all the more so for Jeff Smith's recent health scare. Smith teams up with his previous Tall Tales co-writer Tom Sniegoski for fireside tales told by the bone cousins to a young scout troop. Illustrators incluce Smith himself, as well as Stan Sakai, Katie Cook, Matt Smith and Scott Brown.
- BIRDS OF PREY #1 - Kelly Thompson, who did a bang-up job to Eisner-winning effect on Black Widow and Leonardo Romero, who does a very cool fine-line work take on the BOP! It’s a (partially) all-new team and a more cosmic outlook for the most dangerous sisterhood in the DCU and we’re expecting excellent things from this.
- FIRE & ICE: WELCOME TO SMALLVILLE #1 - Speaking of favourite all-women teams, it’s the return of Fire & Ice this week, last seen wreaking havoc with Christopher Chance’s life. Now they're in Clark Kent’s hometown... what could possibly go wrong?? In keeping with the traditions of Justice League International, Joanne Starer and Natacha Bustos are here to show you!
- KAPTARA UNIVERSAL TRUTHS #1 - The welcome return of Chip Zdarsky & Kagan McCleod's flamboyant space-farer, Keith Kanga. Keith has yet to find his way home from the planet of Kaptara, and now he's been caught up in a mystery involving stolen Cat Tanks. It'll be interesting to see how many people Zdarsky brings back to Kaptara with his much higher profile.
- BLUE BEETLE #1 - Jaime Reyes is back again in a new series timed to compliment the film (which by most accounts is rather good fun, if not reinventing the wheel). Josh Trujillo & Adrian Gutierrez take us back to Palmera City where Jamie begins the toughest challenge of his life: training two new Blue Beetles!
- KILL YOUR DARLINGS #1 - Set in the imagination of an eight-year-old, this series from debut writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, and with art by Bob Quinn and John Hill, promises an intriguing set-up and horrific pay-offs. Image #1’s are always intriguing and this looks set to be a darker I Hate Fairyland, so definitely one to watch!
- HUNT FOR THE SKINWALKER #1 - Zac Thompson and Valeria Burzo adapt the best-selling tell-all by Dr. Colm Kelleher and George Knapp, detailing the paranormal goings-on at Utah's Gorman Ranch. That's the book that eventually helped lead to the recent congressional hearings about UFOs: millions of dollars spent chasing the unchaseable instead of - y'know - buying people houses or whatever. Fun read, though!
- SILVER SURFER REBIRTH LEGACY #1 - Plump up your mullet and tie up your rat's tail as Rons Marz & Lim follow up their hit 90's throwback mini with an all-new story set during their original landmark Surfer run. How 90-'s? Not only do you get the Surfer and Genis Mar-Vell, but the Infinity Watch as well!
That’s it from me. Andrew will be back to entertain and inform next week! Catch you next week, folks!
