The Gosh! Authority 07.05.25
Hello!
The golden weather may have passed us for now, but you can relive it this Wednesday, 7-9pm, in the Grecian glow of vampiric thriller Summer Shadows, as creators John Harris Dunning and Ricardo Cabral celebrate the release of the collection! Details here.
Don't forget: that slightly chilly Monday off this week means that the new comics won't be arriving until Wednesday to go out then. So in all likelihood we'll see books on the shelves by lunchtime, but don't look at coming down for opening!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- FANTASTIC FOUR FANFARE #1 - An anthology mini-series celebrating Marvel's First Family, each issue featuring a few stories from a rather impressive line-up of talent. This first issue is a case in point, with stories by Alan Davis, Andrew Wheeler, Mark Waid, Ramón Rosanas & Sara Pichelli. Next issue has Jonathan Hickman and Mark Buckingham, among others, so they're not messing about with it!
- STAR WARS #1 - The core Star Wars book relaunches, and now we're moving into the post-Return of the Jedi era with all new adventures starring Luke, Leia, Han and co. It's also time for a new creative team, with Alex Segura and Phil Noto jumping into the pilot's chair. The New Republic is in its infancy, and political forces are already stirring to undermine it. Who could they be?!?
- LOS MONSTRUOS #1 - James Robinson and Jesús Merino put werewolf P.I. Perry Cutter on the trail of a missing vampire in this detective noir set in a city of monsters. Imagine a Vegas filled with creatures fresh from the Universal Monsters flicks, from mummys running casinos to night shift vampire cops. That's Los Monstruos in a nutshell, the city that sometimes sleeps in a coffin.
- BLOOD & THUNDER #1 - Robert Kirkman reteams with old Tech Jacket compatriot EJ Su and co-writer Benito Cereno for a new sci-fi series. Akeldama "Blood" Bledsoe is a bounty hunter in a far-flung future, taking on human and alien jobs alike with her massive talking gun, Thunder. Now the two are on the trail of an escaped criminal who might be the most dangerous in the galaxy, which will be pretty straightforward I'd have thought. No chances of anything going wrong there.
- AMADEUS CHO 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 - Get out of town, 20 years? Yeesh! Well, it turns out Amadeus Cho now counts as a classic Marvel character, and creator Greg Pak is celebrating by telling three stories set across supergenius Amadeus Cho's various phases with artists Takeshi Miyazawa, Creees Lee and Jethro Morales!
- FREE PLANET #1 - Aubrey Sitterson and Jed Dougherty chart the course of humanity's first truly free planet after it throws off the yoke of colonial rule. Trouble is, when your planet has a sought after resource beneath its surface, your old rulers aren't the only ones wanting to take control, and there's a small matter of a planet to govern.
- CAPTAIN PLANET #1 - A new era in comics for the environmental super-hero courtesy of David Pepose and Eman Casallos. No doubt he's taking on the radical left green agenda, unleashing a prosperous time harvesting the Earth's rich bounty of oil and minerals. What? He's still fighting to save the planet? Good on you, CP, you've balmed my cynical old soul.
- SPACE GHOST JONNY QUEST SPACE QUEST #1 - Speaking of old cartoons (though these lads have already made their comics comeback), the Quest family wind up coming face to face with the Ghost from Space (nice one, Andrew) in this mini by Joe Casey and Sebastián Piriz.
- IT'S JEFF JEFF WEEK #1 - And finally, tell your Marvel Rivals-playing friends that there's a new It's Jeff comic on the shelves, because those guys are absolutely mad for the webcomic-starring landshark. Seriously, you would not believe how often we're asked for Jeff comics! Well, Kelly Thompson, Gustavo Duarte and Gurihiru have the goods!
And that's it for this week!
Andrew.
