The Gosh! Authority 07.06.23
Hello!
Have you seen Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse yet? Because if you have you'll have caught the excellent (like everything else in that film) cinematic debut of Spider-Man India. And if you did enjoy spending some time with Pavitr Prabhakar, then you'll be happy to hear he has a brand new series coming, written by Nikesh Shukla and drawn by Abhishek Malsuni. Not only that, but we'll have Nikesh here to celebrate the launch of its first issue on Friday June 16th, 7-9pm! Come on down and get a signed copy and have a drink on us. Details here.
Good news Marvel fans! The missing titles from a couple of weeks back are in this week, so expect a fairly hefty pile!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- BATTLE ACTION #1 - Garth Ennis relaunches the classic British war comic for a five issue run, and he's bringing some serious talent with him! Ennis does Johnny Red with Keith Burns, and then the living legend that is John Wagner tells a new HMS Nightshade story with art by Dan Cornwell!
- LOKI #1 - The return of everyone's favourite roguish anti-hero (with the second series of the show presumably coming soon). Local boy Dan Watters joins artist German Peralta on this road-trip mini-series which takes Loki on a journey to find ten terrible weapons he created in the bad old days. If he doesn't? Ragnarok, baby!
- STORM #1 - It's back to the mohawk 80's in this untold tale from Storm's past written by legendary X-editor Ann Nocenti and drawn by Sid Kotian. That Davis cover has me brimming with mid-80s X-nostalgia.
- DAREDEVIL & ECHO #1 - Black Eyed Pea Taboo and his comics writing buddy B. Earl team up with Phil Noto for this mini-series. DD and the now de-Phoenixed Echo are taking on the Demogoblin beneath the streets of NYC.
- FURY #1 - A celebration of Nick Fury, the classic and the modern, in a story that promises to unlock the secrets of S.C.O.R.P.I.O.. Al Ewing bounces from the 40's to the 60's to present day, with artists Adam Kubert, Ramon Rosanas, Tom Reilly & Scot Eaton.
- IN HELL WE FIGHT #1 - John Layman brings his trademark mix of action and comedy in this new series with Argentinian artist Jok. Three teenagers condemned to Hell and their demon buddy undertake an infernal heist of a demon lord's delivery truck. Chaos ensues!
- X-MEN BEFORE THE FALL MUTANT FIRST STRIKE #1 - After a New England town is hit by what appears to be a mutant strike team, Bishop leads the rescue effort and tries to figure out what the heck is going on. Steve Orlando and Valentina Pinti continue the one-shots that are leading into the end of the Krakoan era.
- STEELWORKS #1 - John Henry Irons is back, written by none other than Worf himself (and the voice of Steel in Superman: The Animated Series), Michael Dorn! Joined by artist Sami Basri, Dorn has Steel faced with the question of whether he should continue as a superhero while everything else in his life is going so well. I'm sure we can all relate.
- YOU'VE BEEN CANCELLED #1 - In a future that looks like a Daily Mail fever dream, cancel culture is out of control. The cancellers are a team of assassins who terminate public-voted targets who have committed unforgiveable offenses, all in the name of entertainment on the top-rated live-stream CANCELLED. Roland Endo is the top canceller, but is he at risk of being cancelled himself? A satirical series by Curt Pires and Kevin Castaniero.
- SINS OF THE SALTON SEA #1 - A new horror by Ed Brisson and CP Smith (whose lovely art I haven't seen in a while). Two brothers look to hijack a desert convoy supposedly carrying bullion, but the actual cargo takes them into a world of cults and human sacrifice that might just be the end of them.
And that's your lot for this week!
Andrew.
