The Gosh! Authority 08.03.23
Hello!
This Friday sees the launch of Joe Sparrow's new book, Cuckoo. Joe will be here on Friday, 7-9pm, to celebrate this new release from publishers ShortBox. Jump over to the Facebook event here to get the details.
But before that, on Wednesday, the graphic novel reading group Reads will be meeting here from 7-9pm to discuss Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto's standalone work of a very different nature, Look Back. Get the details on that here. Everyone is welcome!
I'm afraid we're still having issues with publishing blog posts, so once again this will all be going out in the email. Though out of curiosity, if you fancy letting me know whether you prefer a full email or just a short one with a link to the blog, that would be very useful for the future.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- CLEAR #1 - Scott Snyder and Francis Manapul's sci-fi detective story, formerly a Comixology release, comes to print at last. Set in a future where sense filters allow people to see the world in whatever style they like, from anime to black and white Old Hollywood, a filterless detective is on the trail of a murderer who has extinguished an old flame. It's an intriguing setting, and I'll be curious to see how it plays out beyond an initial gimmick.
- ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN JON KENT #1 - Jon's back in his own title again, though never fear, Tom Taylor is still at the helm. And he's getting up to his old tricks, starting a multiversal adventure as Jon is enlisted to find and stop Ultraman, who is on a Kal-El killing spree across dimensions. This is all leading to a big Injustice event, Taylor's old stomping ground (and a video game adaptation that was much better than anyone could have expected).
- NEW MUTANTS LETHAL LEGION #1 - The New Mutants relaunch with a new creative team: Charlie Jane Anders and Enid Balam. Somebody has started building a new (presumably mutant-y) Lethal Legion, tied closely to the history of the New Mutants. Time to step up for the (not really appropriately named any more) New Mutants!
- X-23 DEADLY REGENESIS #1 - Speaking of mutants you still think of as new who have actually been around for decades (well, 19 years in this case), Laura Kinney is back in a new solo series. It's a Haunted by Her Past kind of deal, set during the Utopia era of the X-Men, and brought to you by Erica Schultz and Edgar Salazar.
- PREDATOR #1 - A change in artists means a relaunch for Marvel's Predator series, now set on an alien game reserve where the predators themslves are being hunted. Regular writer Ed Brisson is joined by new artist Netho Diaz.
- STONEHEART #1 - Emma Kubert launches an all-new creator owned fantasy series. A young woman is exiled from her magic guild for reasons unknown, sent to live in isolation. But some kind of mystical power soon stirs within her, leading her on a quest to find the source of her magic.
And that's that!
