The Gosh! Authority 08.09.21

Hello!

We had the ever-lovely Tom Gauld (ably assisted by his daughter Iris) in this week to paint our windows for the release of his wonderful new picturebook The Little Wooden Robot and the Log Princess!

In case you missed it on announcement, we worked with Tom to produce a special die-cut 3D bookplate that comes free with copies of the book. There were just 300 of these made, all signed and numbered by Tom, and we still have a limited number of copies left that you can order right now!

Not much else to say this week, which is usually a good thing these days!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • MAZEBOOK #1 (OF 5) - While his various collaborations are always worth a look, it's Jeff Lemire's solo projects that always excite us the most. This is a supernatural mystery following a grieving buildings inspector who, seeking the source of messages seemingly from his late daughter, finds a doorway to another dimension in the puzzles that she loved. Sure to carry some hefty emotional weight!

  • BATMAN THE WORLD HC - A 160-page original graphic novel that features an international roster of creators tackle Batman stories set in their country. Travel along with Bats to  North America, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, China, Korea, and Japan with an insane line-up of talent!

  • RUN HC - Before his passing, the late congressman John Lewis worked on another graphic novel series with his March collaborators (plus L. Fury). The result is Run, which picks up after the events of March Book Three, continuing the story of Lewis's work in the civil rights movement.

  • PUTIN’S RUSSIA THE RISE OF A DICTATOR GN - Darryl Cunningham has established himself as one of the leading UK creators of reportage comics, and here he takes a deep dive into one of the most fascinating political figures on the world stage. Putin's Russia is an unflinching look at the origins and influence of a man who has reshaped Russian governance and discourse to his own ends. It also takes a critical look at the West's own culpability in Putin's rise. Should be a fun read!

  • DEADBOX #1 - Mark Russell teams up with artist Ben Tiesma for a horror tale about a cursed DVD player which torments the inhabitants of a small town. As it's Russell, expect the scares to be levened by a satirical edge!

  • MEADOWLARK HC - Greg Ruth and Ethan Hawke reteam for an all-new graphic novel. It's a grim crime story set over the course of one day in Huntsville, Texas. A young man travels with his father, who makes a series of bad decisions, growing worse as the day goes on and the consequences of each accumulate behind him. It's a beautiful book, and Hawke proved himself an adept comics writer on their previous book, Indeh, so we're looking forward to this.

  • KA-ZAR LORD SAVAGE LAND #1 (OF 5) - After his death at the hands of the cotati, Ka-Zar is back, resurrected by the Savage Land itself. Now sharing some kind of mystical merge with Shanna, Ka-Zar has starnge new powers that he'll need to take on an ancient evil that threatens his adopted home. Zac Thompson and German Garcia are on the case!

  • BLACK MANTA #1 (OF 6) - Aquaman's best bad guy gets his own mini-series, teaming up with reformed villain Torrid against very much still a villain Devil Ray in a race for a mysterious metal macguffin. Chuck Brown and Valentine De Landro take us down to the ocean's depths.

  • MIGHTY MMW AVENGERS GN TP VOL 01 - The next of Marvel's repackagings of classic material at a pleasingly affordable price. Ten issues of Lee / Kirby / Heck goodness, with your choice of classic Kirby or modern Michael Cho covers to choose from.

And that's your lot for this week. See you next time!

Andrew.
