The Gosh! Authority 08.10.25

Hello!

We've got two events for you this week!

First up, the one and only Tom Gauld will be here on Thursday, 7-9pm, to launch his latest collection Physics For Cats. We've worked with Tom to produce a Gosh-exclusive mini-comic to go with copies of the book, limited to 500 copies, so don't miss out on that! Details here.

Then on Friday, 7-9pm, it's a triple-header launch party, courtesy of Avery Hill! We'll have Donya Todd for The Witch's Egg, Karenza Sparks for The Corus Wave, and Paul Cornell and Rachael Smith for Who Killed Nessie? Quite the crowd for what will no doubt be a great party! Details here.

Absolute monster of a week for new comics: bring a wheelbarrow.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • DC K.O. #1 - The big DC event kicks off here, a contest of DC champions, as it were. To earn the opportunity to challenge Darkseid in single combat (and thereby save the Earth from the Heart of Apocalypse), DC's greatest heroes must enter a tournament to see who is worthy. A round robin smackdown-fest from Scott Snyder and Javier Fernández!

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN TORN #1 - J.M. Straczynski teams up with artist Pere Pérez for a flashback story set in Peter Parker's Empire State University days. Expect all the struggling super-hero soap opera all right-minded folk want from a Spidey comic!

  • MARVEL KNIGHTS PUNISHER #1 - A stunning-looking Punisher series from Jimmy Palmiotti and Dan Panosian that forms part of the new Marvel Knights World to Come initiative. The future is now, but what was Frank Castle's journey there?

  • X-MEN AGE OF REVELATION #1 - Okay, so this didn't actually wind up shipping last week, but is DEFINITELY coming this week (along with 5 AoR titles)! All the X-books take a 10 year leap into the future thanks to Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman. All is not well in the mutant utopia of the Revelation Territories: the former United States of America, now ruled by the heir of Apocalypse. There's a bunch of X-Men fighting a guerilla war, and now it looks like there might be traitors from within. What's a poor, beleagured dictator to do?

  • AMAZING X-MEN #1 - (Replacing X-Men) Jed MacKay and Mahmud Asrar send the remains of the X-Men into the remains of Graymalkin, following a lead on a potential game-changer.

  • BINARY #1 - (Replacing Phoenix) Stephanie Phillips and Giada Belviso imbue Carol Danvers with the Phoenix force, and Binary is reborn. But she might spell the end of everything, so maybe not the best idea?

  • LAURA KINNEY SABRETOOTH #1 - (Replacing Laura Kinney Wolverine, would you believe?) Laura has taken on the name of Sabretooth, and fights at Revelation's side. Erica Schultz and Valentina Pinti follow the lousy turncoat!

  • LONGSHOTS #1 - (All new, not a replacement!) Jonathan Hickman, Gerry Duggan and Alan Robinson give us some of that Mojoworld madness, with all your favourite associated crazies (and the X-Babies!)

  • WORLD OF REVELATION #1 - (Not a replacement!) An anthology one-shot spotlighting the plight of Marvel's non-mutants in the age of Revelation. Al Ewing, Agustin Alessio, Steve Foxe, Jesús Merino, Ryan North and Adam Szalowski all feature.

  • CONAN SCOURGE OF THE SERPENT #1 - A mini-series that ties together three of REH's characters across time in three stories linked by the evil of Set and his epoch-spanning plots. Cimmerian barbarian Conan, pictish warrior Brule and occult investigator John Kirowan each encounter some slithery evil, in their own time, as told by Jim Zub and Ivan Gil.

  • RED BOOK #1 - Spinning off from Blue Book, James Tynion IV and Michael Avon Oeming open Soviet and Chinese cases of possible UFO activity, starting with the infamous Dyatlov Pass Incident.

  • HIGH STRANGENESS #1 - More tales of the supernatural as Chris Condon, Daniel Noah and Dave Chisholm kick of a five-issue series featuring different creators relating paranormal incidents that will apparently come together as a mind-blowing whole, or so the PR info goes. Looks like fun though, with this first issue featuring an encounter with the mysterious Men in Black.

  • ATHANASIA OGN - A graphic novel by Daniel Kraus and Dani following a young recovering addict who takes up a position in a superhero cemetary. She soon finds a new addiction: the seeping ooze of dead superheroes that comes through the graveyard ground at night. The substance gives her powers with which she initially uses to take on the city's criminals, but it soon begins to warp her mind and lead her down a much darker path.

  • MARVEL BLACK WHITE BLOOD & GUTS #1 - Marvel gets in the Halloween spirit with a gruesome anthology featuring stories from Al Ewing, Kev Walker, G. Willow Wilson, Dev Pramanik, Chris Condon and Claire Roe.

  • SiKtC A MONSTER HUNTER WALKS INTO A BAR #1 - Reprinting the Something is Killing the Children story that was serialised in the Hello Darkness anthology. James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera explore the stories of those whom Erica Slaughter has saved from nasty beasties.

  • DEATH TO PACHUCO #1 - A detective thriller rooted in the very real Zoot Suit Riots of 1943, when U.S. Navy crew stationed in Los Angeles clashed with Mexican youth after the murder of young Mexican man. Henry Barajas and Rachel Merrill head back into some dark US history.

    • STRANGE TALES #1 - It's another Halloween mini-series from Marvel, featuring Nico Minoru and the Scarlet Witch getting up to some magical shenanigans courtesy of Jeremy Whitley and Bayleigh Underwood.

    • RETURN TO PLANET HULK #1 - A one-shot celebrating the 20th anniversary of Planet Hulk, which is kind of incredible. Incredibly depressing, anyway. 20 years??? Anyway, Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan, the original Planet Hulk crew, return to Sakaar.

    • MARY SUE #1 - A young woman who is obsessed with a television show to the point of writing her own fanfic finds her own "Mary Sue" main character coming to her rescue after her secret writing life is embarrassingly revealed to her peers. A new metafiction series by Meghan Fitzmartin and Lisa Sterle.

    • MARIAN HERETIC #1 - Tini Howard and Joe Jaro introduce us to Sister Marian, a witch-hunting, heretic nun who fights evil in defiance of the Catholic orthodoxy. As you do.

    • GUY IN THE CHAIR #1 - An operations guy falls in love with a field agent who then shows up his door, wounded and asking for help. A spy thriller from Hannah Rose May, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Guillermo Sanna.

    • DELUGE #1 - The inmates of a women's prison are trapped in a flooding institution with something monstrous and hungry in this horror mini by Cullen Bunn and Marika Cresta.

    • HARLEY QUINN X ELVRIA #1 - Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner and Juan Samu knock some toys together as Harley crosses over with the Mistress of the Dark herself, Elvira.

And at last I'm done! What a week! All this and Absolute Batman too!

    Andrew.
