The Gosh! Authority 09.06.21

Hello!

An event! A real-life event! Yes, we're slowly, tentatively winding up our events programme again with a socially-distanced Saturday signing with those purveyors of mischief Krent Able and Shaky Kane for the release of their new Image Comics collection Kane & Able! Get yourselves down here from 1-2pm on Saturday 3rd July to get a signed (and bookplated) copy from the gentlemen themselves. And rest assured, we'll be doing everything we can to make this a safe, enjoyable event for all involved. If you can't make it, never fear: the bookplate edition is available for preorder on our webstore now.

Really nothing else of note to convey here this week, other than keep your eyes open for some very exciting new print and bookplate announcements coming up over the next week or so.

On with the comics!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ALONE IN SPACE HC BOOKPLATE EDITION - A lovely new hardcover collection of Tillie Walden's earliest published material - I Love This Part, A City Inside & The End of Summer - plus a collection of previously unpublished sketches and short pieces. Needless to say we're behind this Avery Hill-published title 100%, and we've got the exclusive signed bookplate to prove it. Order your copy on the webstore now!

  • SIX SIDEKICKS OF TRIGGER KEATON #1 - The presence of both Kyle Starks (Sexcastle) and Chris Schweizer (Crogan Adventures)  pretty much guarantees a good time on this new series. The onscreen sidekicks of a deeply unlikable TV action star attempt to solve the mystery of his death. Not easy when everyone had a motive, and even worse when they find themselves dragged into a war of stuntmen!

  • DC PRIDE #1 - A bumper collection of stories featuring the LGBTQ+ characters of the DC Universe! Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Midnighter, Extraño, Batwoman, Aqualad, Alan Scott, Obsidian, Future State Flash, Renee Montoya, Pied Piper and more get some time in the spotlight, plus the issue features the comics debut of Dreamer (previously of the Supergirl TV show).

  • WAKE THE HIDDEN HISTORY OF WOMEN-LED SLAVE REVOLTS HC - Part scholarly memoir and part historical fiction, Wake is the result of Rebecca Hall's research into the history of her family's enslavement. Within that she uncovers stories of African women who led revolts against slavers but who were then effectively erased from history. It's compelling stuff (as untold histories often are), beautifully illustrated by Hugo Martinez.

  • MY ALCOHOLIC ESCAPE FROM REALITY GN - The latest memoir from the author of My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, documenting her struggles with alcohol and the sharp shock of being disgnosed with pancreatitis. As ever it's baldly honest stuff, shot through with endearing, often self-deprecatory humour.

  • HEROES REBORN NIGHT-GWEN #1 - Vita Ayala & Farid Karami give us a proper introduction to Nightbird (or Night-Gwen, as she prefers), the one-time sidekick to Squadron Supreme member Nighthawk. Her daytime guise is Gwen Stacey, Ravencroft Asylum's star psychiatrist, but she's on the hunt at night when new killer The Jackal surfaces.

  • HEROES REBORN SQUADRON SAVAGE #1 - When things get too dirty for the Squadron Supreme they send in the Squadron Savage. Elektra, the Punisher, Crossbones, Cloak and Murder Hornet get bloody for the Department of Defence in their battle with the terrorist organisation known as the Redeemers. Ethan Sacks & Luca Pizzari are on the case.

  • GIFT SC - A dreadful tragedy looms in this graphic novel by rising star Zoe Maeve. Anastasia, the fourth Romanov princess, receives a camera for her fifteenth birthday from an unknown benefactor. As she takes photos of the sheltered life she and her sisters live in the palace, the shadow of a dark presence begins to make itself felt on the periphery of her vision. A presence that seeks to consume her and all she knows.

  • W.E.B. OF SPIDER-MAN #1 (OF 5) - Kevin Shinick & Rob DiSalvo answer the question "What if Marvel Comics published those Marvel Action comics instead of IDW?" A younger readers Spider-Man mini-series following Spidey as he works with the Worldwide Engineering Brigade in Tony Stark's new research station for the MU's teen genius heroes.

  • MIGHTY MMW AMAZING SPIDER-MAN GREAT POWER GN TP - Here's a bit of an answered prayer: the Marvel Masterworks line, reprinted in the bookshelf-friendly GN TP format (slightly smaller than regualr comics). All the lovely Lee/Ditko magic of Amazing Fantasy #15 and Amazing Spider-Man #1-10 at a pleasing price point. And you get the choice of classic Ditko cover or a nice bit of Michael Cho for something more contemporary. We can sell these babies all day long. Thanks Marvel! And keep your eyes open for more classic Marvel tales to come in this format.

And that's me done for the week. Take care all!

Andrew.
