HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • GOSPEL #1 - After an extended absence, Will Morris is back with a vengeance with this all new fantasy series set in them time of King Henry VIII. The Devil comes calling for two young people, setting them on a quest for information about their shared history. It's heavily influenced by the works of Hayao Miyazaki, and looks absolutely stunning. We've done a bookplate for the eventual trade, but we're also giving a plate away with the first 25 copies sold of this first issue! Check this beauty out:

  • FANTASTIC FOUR #1 - The FF are back! Again! Yes, it's an all-new era for Marvel's first family, with an all-new #1 to jump on with. It all kicks off with some time-looping shananigans with Ben and Alicia when they hit the road to get out of NYC. Gosh fave Ryan North takes over as writer, with Iban Coello on art. Alex Ross is on covers, using some of the pleasing psychedelic palettes he brought to his recent FF graphic novel.

  • NEW GOLDEN AGE #1 - Here comes Geoff Johns, jumping back into the DC universe with a vengeance. This one shot sets up his new stable of titles (launching soon!) as it tours through the past, present and future of the DCU, setting up a time-spanning threat that will loom large in the upcoming series. Scott Kolins, Jerry Ordway, Brandon Peterson, Gary Frank, Steve Lieber, Viktor Bogdanovic, Diego Olortegui & Todd Nauck provide art.

  • ITS LONELY AT THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH TP - UK comics wunderkind Zoe Thorogood creates an autobiographical gem with this look at 6 months of her life where everything is falling apart, and the struggles she goes through to pull it back together. But it's also about art, and the selfish role it plays in the life of an artist, and Thorogood's unflinching, self-effacing honesty bumps it a cut above most comics in this vein.

  • SALAMANDRE TP - I.N.J. Culbard takes a break from Brink for this original graphic novel which (in a bit of a companion piece to the above title) looks at the power of art, censorship as a means of control, and the overwhelming nature of loss. A young artist is sent to live with his grandfather in a nation under the sway of a tyrant who has outlawed most sources of beauty. He falls in with a group of art revolutionaries, and with them attempts to find a way through his grief.

  • SPIDER-MAN THE LOST HUNT #1 - JM DeMatteis returns to the storyline for which he is probably best known: Kraven's Last Hunt. Dipping back into the past as Peter and MJ move to Portland, the pair are stalked by a figure from Kraven's past with sinister designs. The series promises a deep dive into Kraven's origins with DeMatteis and artist Eder Messias.

  • BLACK PANTHER UNCONQUERED #1 - A one-shot by Killmonger writer Bryan Hill with artist Alberto Foche timed for the release of the new Black Panther movie. Intended as an accessible one-shot, T'Challa discovers a threat whose origins are embedded in the history of Wakanda, right back to the Panther God, Bast.

  • TWO GRAVES #1 - Genevieve Valentine, Annie Wu & Ming Doyle launch a new series told from two different points of view as a woman goes on a road trip, on the run with a mysterious man with a smoke-veiled face and a bloody handprint on his neck. Mysteries abound and there's not a lot of info available, but it sure looks nice.

  • SPECS #1 - We've all dreamed of ordering some mail order X-Ray Specs, right? Well two boys from Ohio get a whole lot more than they bargained for when theirs arrive. At first the magical gifts they bestow seem like a lot of fun, but when they wish for their bully to disappear things get dark. David M. Booher and Chris Shehan tell a tale of demonic eyewear.

  • WILDC.A.T.S. #1 - Matthew Rosenberg & Stephen Segovia relaunch the Wildstorm classic, now firmly entrenched in the DC Universe. But these ain't your dad's WildC.A.T.s, now lead by Grifter with the mysterious Void as their operational commander, doing the dirty DC work that the heroes won't touch.

  • SABRETOOTH AND THE EXILES #1 - Picking up where Sabretooth's solo series left off, with Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk still steering the ship. Sabretooth has escaped Krakoa, with the Krakoan exiles hot on his heels.

And that's it for another week! See you next time friends!
