The Gosh! Authority 10.01.24

Hello!

This Saturday marks the beginning of our big, head-popping January sale! It's 50% off all back issues, and our signing table will be stacked with boxes of massively reduced graphic novels, so come on down for 10.30am on Saturday and join the mad rush for first choice! Can't make it on the day? Never fear, stocks will be refreshed throughout the sale, from 10.30am on Saturday the 13th through to 7pm on Sunday the 28th. Time to fill some gaps and make some discoveries!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 - Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto's much-anticipated reboot of Spidey for the new Ultimate universe arrives at last with this 48-page first issue (and they've even somehow managed to resist the temptation to charge $9.99 for it, opting for a (relatively) resonable $5.99 (£5.85)). While this probably won't be the landscape-changing event that Bendis' original run was, I'm always down to give Hickman a chance!

  • RISE OF THE POWERS OF X #1  - Speaking of fresh starts, the demise of the Krakoan era continues here, with this companion mini to Fall of the House of X-Men. We're jumping ahead in time courtesy of Kieron Gillen and R. B. Sailva, as the surviving, long-since defeated X-Men rally one last time to stop the final apocalyptic plans of Nimrod and Omega Sentinel.

  • LIFE HOUSE HC - Way back when The Who were riding high on the success of Tommy, Pete Townsend wrote a screenplay that was intended as the band's next rock opera. Instead the project morphed into the album Who's Next, and the screenplay was set aside. Until now, that is, as David Hine, James Harvey and Max Prentis take Townsend's tale of a musical revolution and turn it into a deluxe, LP-sized hardcover graphic novel.

  • ZORRO MAN OF THE DEAD #1 (OF 4) - It would seem Sean Gordon Murphy has a swashbuckling soft spot, as he brings the legend of Zorro into the modern era with this series he writes and draws. After his parents are killed by narco gangs when he was a child, Diego becomes obsessed with Zorro, training himself to emulate the legendary hero. His goal? Revenge on the narcos, Zorro-style!

  • TREASURY OF BRITISH COMICS ANNUAL HC - Better late than never, we've got this collection of new and classic strips from the ToBC archive at last. We weren't able to get the standard cover, sadly, but we've got a limited number of the Rebellion webstore exclusive available. Rediscover the joy of the classic British comics annual!

  • ADVENTUREMAN GHOST LIGHTS #1 - Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson's love letter to pulpy hero antics returns. This time Claire and her pals are fighting against the ghosts of golden age baddies, because that's the kind of snappily written, beautifully drawn thing you get in....ADVENTUREMAN!

  • GIANT-SIZE SPIDER-MAN #1 - Miles Morales and Venom go head to head in this giant-sized one-shot by Cody Ziglar and Iban Coello. Also included is a reprint of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #22, by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.

And that's it, comics fans! See you next week!
