The Gosh! Authority 10.02.21

Hello!

First up this week, some unwelcome news. Due to snowstorms in the US, most of what was due to be released this week has been delayed, and will probably now ship next week (the 17th). There's a small amount of product coming - mostly some DC titles and holdovers from previous weeks - but it'll be modest to non-existent for most of you. Expect a bit of a monster delivery next week!

This delay in deliveries actually gives us the opportunity to do a stock take, which we'll be undertaking later in the week. Do be patient with us in the latter half of this week around email responses, mail order requests and so on. We've got a lot of books to count, and not many people to do it!

Not much to talk about this week, but still a few items worth mentioning.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • A JOURNAL OF MY FATHER HC - New translations of Jiro Taniguchi are always a cause for celebration, especially given the beautiful hardcover editions that Fanfare tend to produce of them these days. A man returns to his hometown after the death of his father. Through remembrances of childhood and the stories of his dad told by those he meets, he gains a new understanding of a man he had long considered cold and distant

  • GRENDEL KENTUCKY #1 (OF 4) - Speaking of hold-overs from previous weeks, here's one that's shipping to us so late I was convinced we'd never see it. This tale of a small US town in the grip of a bargain made with a monster actually debuted in the US in September and has already shipped all 4 issues there! Hopefully that means we'll see them in fairly quick order, as we've been looking forward to this Jeff McComsey / Tommy Lee Edwards reworking of Beowulf since its announcement back in July last year.

  • PARENTHESIS GN - Winner of the 2011 Revelation Prize at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, Élodie Durand's affecting memoir gets an English-language edition at last. When the pressure of a tumour on her brain causes seizures, blackouts and memory loss for Élodie in her early 20's, a parenthesis is opened in her life with no closure in sight.

And that's it for the week! See you next week when I'll no doubt be struggling through a list of 20 titles or something...

Andrew.
