The Gosh! Authority 11.03.26
Hello!

Our old friend Tula Lotay will swing by the store with collaborator Helen Mullane on Wednesday, 6-7pm, to sign copies of their new book, Groupies! Come get a slice of rock'n'roll infused horror. Details here.

Then immediately afterwards, 7-9pm, it's Reads, the graphic novel reading group! This month the book under discussion is Kamome Shirahama's absolutely stunning Witch Hat Atelier Vol 01. Everyone is welcome, so come on down! Details here.

Then on Friday, 7-9pm, it's a launch party for Ziggy Hanaor and Benjamin Phillips' new book, Shushu! I haven't read a copy yet, but I love how much the cover of this book pops. Details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

- THE ENDS TP - From the unseen-by-most Bad Idea vaults comes another David & Maria Lapham book, collected together and in colour for the first time. We really are spoiled for Lapham content after having had a drought for so long! 1985 setting? Dysfuctional families? Forbidden love? Troubled youths? Horrible, violent antagonists? Be still, my Stray Bullets-loving heart!

- TIGRESS ISLAND #1 - Heads-up, VHS-era exploitation movie fans! No doubt your ears will perk when you hear the pitch for this new series from Patrick Kindlon and EPHK. A group of wannabe actresses are kidnapped and imprisoned on a hidden island under the cruel attentions of a sadistic warden. They'll need to learn to work together if they're going to escape...TIGRESS ISLAND!

- COMICS! THE MAGAZINE #1 - We here at Gosh! can respect a superfluous exclamation mark. Comics! The Magazine, brought to you by Atom Freeman and friends, represents that rarity of the modern age: a print magazine about modern comics! As time goes by I'm more and more enamoured of physical magazines, and the capsule of finite, packaged entertainment and information they represent. Ditch the toxic rabbitholes of the internet and get on board!

- X-MEN UNITED #1 - The X-Men return to where they belong: school! Graymatter Lane is the new iteration of Charles Xavier's vision, but this is no physical campus. Mutants from around the world can be united with their legendary teachers, hidden from the threats that ever spursue them. Grab your textbooks (x-books! Ahaha...ha...ha) and head back to school with Eve L. Ewing and Tiago Palma.

- ALIAS RED BAND #1 - Jessica Jones as she should be: with swearing and violence! Sam Humphries and Geraldo Borges get a chance to take Jessica back to her comic roots as she joins forces with Typhoid Mary to investigate a series of grisly murders. It's her 25th anniversary, would you believe!

- IMPERIAL GUARDIANS #1 - Dan Abnett returning to Marvel's cosmic playground is always cause for celebration. He's joined by artist Marcelo Ferreira as Maximus of the Inhumans recruits a covert mission squad consisting of Gamora, Captain Marvel, Amadeus Cho, Darkhawk and Cosmic Ghost Rider dedicated to taking out cosmic threats. Sure...Maximus. What could possibly go wrong?

- NARCO #1 - A housebound narcoleptic witnesses the murder of his neighbour, immediately passing out. When he wakes, he finds himself pursued as suspect number one, and he must go on the run to prove his innocence by finding the real killer. Looks like another quirky thriller by Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard.

- SPIDER-MAN MEALS TO ASTONISH #1 - A one-shot by Steve Orlando and Roi Mercado spotlighting real-life chef José Andrés and his charity, World Central Kitchen, as the Rhino threatens a new restaurant opening. Plus there's a reprint of the T.E.S.T. Kitchen infinity comic, and some Jeff the Shark for good measure.

- A QUIET PLACE STORM WARNING #1 - Phil Hester and Ryan Kelly tell a story set in the early days of the alien invasion as seen in the Quiet Place movies. A small island town on the Mississippi River believe they're safe from the creatures that are overwhelming the rest of the country. The fire chief thinks otherwise, but nobody's listening. It's like the Jaws mayor all over again!

- THROUGH HC - Current movie "that guy" (and always excellently so) David Dastmalchian teams up with artist Cat Staggs for an original graphic novel about a young woman whose internal sanctuary is transformed into a personal nightmare, as the ghosts of her past threaten to tear it all down.

- USAGI YOJIMBO KAITO 84 #1 - Zack Rosenberg & Jared Cullum temporarily take the reins from Stan Sakai for a tale starring a modern (well, 1984) ancestor of Miyamoto Usagi. Kaitō is a petty thief who gets embroiled in the heist of a supposedly magical spear. Sounds like destiny is calling! It's gotta be better than that terrible cartoon Netflix produced a few years back. I was so excited to introduce my kids to the world of Usagi, and instead we got that monstrosity, with its bad cyberpunk setting and clumsy, crude animation. Heartbreaking. Uuhh...anyway...here's a new comic!
And on that sour note, have a lovely week!
Andrew.
