The Gosh! Authority 11.09.24

Hello!

We're excited to have John Harris Dunning here on Wednesday, 6-7pm, to sign copies of the first issue of Summer Shadows, his (and artist Ricardo Cabral's) sunshine noir thriller set on the Greek islands. Come grab the first issue and help to celebrate the release! Details here.

And then why not stick around for this month's edition of Reads, the graphic novel reading group, also on Wednesday from 7-9pm? This month things are slightly different to the usual discussion format: it's small press show and tell! So bring along your favourite small press titles, and discover a bunch of new stuff! Details here.

And then on Thursday, 7-9pm, be sure to come along for the launch party for Elena: A Handmade Life, a celebration of author Miriam Gold's extraordinary grandmother. Miriam will be there, and so should you be! Get the details here

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • SUMMER SHADOWS #1 - Drawing on his own experiences summering in the Greek Isles (though presumably with less murder), John Harris Dunning imbues this queer thriller with a genuine flavour of Mediterranean life, illustrated beautifully by Ricardo Cabral. When Nick comes to the island of Avraxos looking for answers after the abrupt departure of Anthony, the love of his life, he becomes embroiled in a mystery involving disappearances and a sinister, jet-black superyacht.

  • WOLVERINE #1 - Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo begin a new era for the short, hairy, clawed one. There's a new baddie in town who may have links to Wolvie's past, and with his buttons getting pushed Logan is on the verge of going full berserker. Luckily Nightcrawler is on hand!

  • AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #1 - Cap forms an emergency response team in this new spinoff by Steve Orlando and Cory Smith. A mix of veterans and newbies assemble to tackle whatever villainy is kicking off, giving a pleasing revolving-door line-up to showcase a range of Marvel heroes. It's all a bit Justice League Unlimited (both the cartoon and the upcoming JLA comic series), but that's no bad thing!

  • DEAD EYES THE EMPTY FRAMES #1 - After a long hiatus, Gerry Duggan and John McCrea return with their Boston-based crook, picking up where the first series left off. Out of retirement and looking to make a big score to save his wife, Dead Eyes is on the trail of a haul of stolen art. And the cops and the mafia are also on the trail. Well, his trail, to be specific.

  • GROO MINSTREL MELODIES #1 - One day we won't have Groo any more, and that day will be one where the unenlightened peoples of the world will go "I wish I'd read more Groo." Don't be those people. Pick up this mini, where the Minstrel and his daughter go from town to town singing songs (that is, cautionary tales) of the exploits of the thick-skulled barbarian. As ever, Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier sing a song of stupidity and swords.

  • TIME WAITS #1 - A new sci-fi tale from DSTLRY courtesy of Chip Zdarsky, David Brothers and Marcus To. A time-travelling assassin who deserted his mission in our present to settle in Rural America with Grace, the town sherrif. But now his future is catching up with him as a team is sent back to eliminate him and fulfill his original objective, shattering his peaceul new life.

  • VENOM WAR WOLVERINE #1 - Wolvie gets his zombiote on in this Venom War spin-off by Tim Seeley, Tony Fleecs & Kev Walker. Always happy to see Kev Walker draw the heck out things!

See you next week, friends!

Andrew.
