The Gosh! Authority 11.11.20

Hello all! Here's an info dump pic for you....

Hope Lockdown 2.0 is treating you all well. I'm beavering away at the store from Monday - Friday, 9.30am - 5pm, on mail orders, deliveries and so on, so do keep your emails and calls coming. As mentioned in the pic above, we can do mail order for standing orders, and if you arrange it in advance we can also do collection at the door. Although the store is closed, it's business as usual downstairs, with new comics every week and new books coming in all the time.

Anyway, what exciting news? Well first up our GOSH! BEST OF 2020 lists are just around the corner! Yes, as usual we've scoured through this year's GN & TPB releases and worked together to create two lists of our favourites: 20 books for adults and 20 books for kids. Look for announcements at the end of the week! Or maybe early next week...

And good news for all you patient missing comics watchers! This week sees the release of DCeased Dead Planet #3, 4 & 5, The Dreaming Waking Hours #2 & 3 and Batman The Adventures Continue #4 & 5!

Oh, and good news for all you Once and Future fans who pre-ordered our Gosh! Exclusive Bookplate Edition of volume 2: it's in this week! We'll get orders out ASAP.

And if you haven't jumped on this lovely Aud Koch-illustrated, Kieron Gillen-signed plate yet, there's still time to order here.

Okay, how about some comics?

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • SCARENTHOOD #1 (OF 4) - Nick Roche's tale of suburban horror hits the shelves this week, and there's still time to get yourself into the competition to win an original sketch by Nick! Just add Scarenthood to your standing order and purchase #1 to go into the draw. Numbers of available copies are limited now, so it'll be first come, first served for anyone who'd like to give it a try. We've read the first issue and it's very good!

  • GAMISH HC (WITH EXCLUSIVE PLATE) - Edward Ross' long-awaited follow-up to Filmish is here! It's his love letter to gaming, from its origins in the 50's to its culturally integral role today. Taking us through all the major events, people and games, it not only charts the medium's history, but also looks at its impact on society.

  • Top stuff, and while stocks last we also have an exclusive signed bookplate Edward has produced for us featuring someone who may or may not resemble a certain famous fantasy adventurer (whose adventures my son is playing in the room next door as I type these words). These are limited to just 50 copies, so get your orders on the webstore quick!

  • PLANET PARADISE GN - Jesse Lonergan's Hedra was one of the surprise hits of the year, a trippy, sci-fi surprise with the most intricate storytelling we've seen this side of a Chris Ware comic. Planet Paradise is his follow-up, and while it doesn't have quite the wow factor of Hedra, it's certainly one of the highlights this week. After a crash landing on a hostile planet, a woman battles for survival with her only companion: the drug-addled captain of the ship. If you were a fan of the Brandon Graham-spearheaded Prophet, or anything by Simon Roy, then you really need to check this out.

  • PUNCHLINE SPECIAL #1 - Time for a wibbly wobbly flashback transition as we journey into the dim, distant past to see the origin of Punchline, aka Alexis Kaye, as she changes from disaffected teen to radicalized murderer. Wheee! Courtesy of Sam Johns and Mirka Andolfo (who's a good choice, actually).

  • MADI ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE FUTURE GN - Alex de Campi, Duncan Jones and a small army of artists (including Glenn Fabry, Simon Bisley, Duncan Fegredo and Pia Guerra) create a dystopian thriller with healthy dashes of Blade Runner. Each artist contributes a chapter in this story of an ex-military agent who takes on One Last Job to secure her future, only to be dragged into something far more sinister and dangerous than she was expecting.

  • HELLBOY & THE BPRD THE SEVEN WIVES CLUB #1 - A brand new one-shot by Micke Mignola and Adam Hughes! When a ghost hunt goes terribly wrong, Hellboy and the BPRD ride to the rescue. Let's face it: you know what you're getting here, and that's no bad thing. It'll be spooky and it'll look gorgeous. Result!

  • GIRL TP - At long last, the Peter Milligan / Duncan Fegredo Vertigo classic gets a collection for - would you believe it - the first time ever. It's teenage ennui, 90's style, in the mighty peak-Vertigo manner!

  • DARK NIGHTS DEATH METAL INFINITE HOUR EXXXTREME! #1 - Lobo does Death Metal. Because of course.

  • MISKATONIC #1 - This might be our sleeper hit of the week. Mark Sable & Giorgio Pontrelli spin a Lovecraftian thriller as tough investigator Miranda Keller investigates a series of bombings in Miskatonic Valley. Initially looking to uncover the machinations of the Red Menace, Miranda soon finds that scratching the surface of this town can be bad for your health...

  • RESIDENT ALIEN YOUR RIDE'S HERE #1 - Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse's extraterrestrial detective is back for his last story, just in time for the upcoming TV adaptation. Everything's coming to a head as Harry tries to figure out what to do about Honey (who can see him for who he really is) and how to resolve his feelings for Asta.

  • TASKMASTER #1 (OF 5) - Just in time to tie in to the smash hit Black Widow movie relea---what? Ohhhh....
  • TASKMASTER #1 (OF 5) - Hey, apropos of nothing, it's a brand new Taskmaster series! Jed MacKay & Alessandro Vitti take the reins for an espionage thriller starring the villain whom I thought had the best costume ever when I was 12 years old (and still have a soft spot for).

  • KICK-ASS VS HIT-GIRL #1 (OF 5) - It's, well, Kick-Ass (the new one) vs Hit-Girl (the usual one)! Steve Niles & Marcelo Frusin are at the helm here for what's sure to be an ultra-violent thrill ride.

  • THOR BY DONNY CATES TP VOL 01 DEVOURER - It's your chance to see what all the hype is about! Donny Cates and Nic Klein are on a tear as Thor gets yet another really good run of comics. Honestly, he (and occasionally she) has had a bloody good shake of it over the years with some terrific creative teams. This comes highly recommended (and very nearly made our Best Of list).

  • BIONIC TP - Koren Shadmi is back with an all new graphic novel, once again taking a schlocky concept and turning it into something beautiful and human. Victor is an awkward teen who is in love with Patricia, a girl who is transformed after gaining new robotic parts in the wake of a terrible accident. It's a event that will change their lives, and their relationship, forever.

And that's it folks! Remember, if you want to arrange a mail order or a collection of your standing order, get in touch. But please do be patient: there are only so many hours in the day and just the one of me!

See ya next week, folks!

Andrew.
