HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ULTIMATE UNIVERSE ONE YEAR IN #1 - Hard to believe it's been a year already since the Ultimate Universe came bursting back to life! This one-shot by Deniz Camp & Jonas Scharf takes stock of where we're at in terms of the impending return of the Maker, and sets the stage for the year to come. Introduces a couple of new Ultimate characters as well *coughcoughincludingWolverinecough*. If you're getting Ultimates you'll be covered, but speculators are all over this puppy, so let me know if you want one!

  • BATMAN DARK PATTERNS #1 - A 12 issue miniseries leaning into the detective angle of the Dark Knight Detective. Set during the early days of Batness, Bruce has yet to acquire all the bells and whistles of technbology he'd later have. He's operating at street level, solving crimes the hard way, and here he's presented with the first of three mysteries that will push him right to the limit. Dan Watters has proven himself to be a solid Bat-writer, and Hayden Sherman (whose Absolute Wonder Woman is one of the nicest looking books on the racks) in on board as artist.

  • LAURA KINNEY WOLVERINE #1 - Laura Kinney, the Wolverine formerly known as X-23, gets another shot in the spotlight thanks to Erica Schultz and Giada Belviso. Given her past, she's got a blade or two to grind with those who would exploit mutantkind for ill purpose. She's off to NYC, where she might just run into another formar assassin guest star, if I look into my crystal ball (and solicitations for January...)

  • CITY BENEATH HER FEET #1 - A new DSTLRY series by James Tynion IV and Elsa Charretier, which is pretty exciting in and of itself! It's an NYC-set thriller following a young woman, Zara, who discovers she is still the emergency phone contact of her ex. The problem is, her ex was an assassin, and now there's some very bad people who would like to speak to her, and Zara is their only lead. Looking forward to seeing Charretier's art in that oversized DSTLRY format.

  • WARM FUSION #1 - Another DSTLRY debut! Scott Hoffman and Alberto Ponticelli have their own New York City series, only this one is a bit more a sci-fi horror affair. And they've really packed it in, with genetic mutations, evil megacorps, mad scientists (and their alter-egos), climate change gone wild, organic metals, mysterious killers and more. And all just 20 years ahead! Yeesh!

  • THROUGH THE BOUGHS A YULETIDE OFFERING #1 - Tis the season for DSTLRY, it seems! A Christmas-themed one-shot anthology, one with, I suspect, a creepy festive spirit. James Tynion IV, Jim Campbell, Pat McHale, Natalie Andrewson, Grim Wilkins, Jensine Eckwall, Sweeney Boo, Molly Mendoza, Ryan Andrews and K. Wroten all contribute.

  • EC SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES #1 - The latest reinvention of the EC brand in a - you guessed it - festive horror one-shot! It's a deluxe, squarebound little gift just for you, with stories by Jason Aaron, Ben H. Winters, David Lapham, Jay Stephens, Kano, Peter Krause and more!

  • SUPERWOMAN SPECIAL #1 - Joshua Williamson, Laura Braga, Nikola Čižmešija and Edwin Galmon reveal how Lois Lane received her new powers, and what it means for the future of the Super-family.

  • YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1 - A prequel to the new Disney+ animated series by Christos Gage and Eric Gapstur. Think of it as a new Spidey origin story for the kids, as Peter discovers his powers, decides to take some great responsibility, puts together his costume and juggles school and crime-fighting!

  • IN BLOOM #1 - Really interesting concept for this new thriller by Michael Conrad and John Pearson. Humanity has been irrevocably changed by the Bloom, a fungal infection (or more accurately, integration) that has transformed people both physically and mentally, perhaps even connecting them to an inhuman mega-intelligence. Against this background, a detective investigates a series of muders that might just tie in to the reasons the Bloom happened in the first place.

  • INFINITY WATCH #1 - Spinning out of the Infinity Watch annuals, seven people now bear the Infinity Stones. But far from being a happy superheroic family, they are contending with each other as would-be heroes and would-be conquerors. Derek Landy and Ruairí Coleman are going to have to figure out how it all shakes out.

  • PETPOOL POOL PARTY #1 - All of the various animal-Pool formely digital infinity comics are collected together into an oversized special courtesy of MacKenzie Cadenhead and Enid Balám.

And that's it for this week!
