The Gosh! Authority 14.09.22
Hello!
This week sees the slightly delayed launch party for Daniel Freedman and Crom's latest fantasy tale Birdking. Crom will be here on Friday September 16th, 7-9pm, and we're going all-out for this one, such is our excitement! A launch party!
And a Gosh!-exclusive bookplate!
Heck, we've even got an excellent window painting!
Friday, 7-9pm. Don't miss it! And now let's look at the best of the rest!
(Actually, late addendum here: due to the state funeral of the Queen next Monday, next week's shipment will be arriving on Wednesday to go straight out, so comics will not be on the shelves at opening on Wednesday the 21st. We'll get them out as quick as we can.)
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS TEN THOUSAND BLACK FEATHERS #1 - Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's shared universe of horror stories begins its second chapter, this time in the form of a mini-series. A pair of avid gamers are drawn into a nightmare as their fantasy world begins to intrude on our own, and I'd guess to say not in a good way.
- BATMAN VS ROBIN #1 - Mark Waid continues his triumphant return to DC, spinning a tale out of his World's Finest series that sees Damian under the influence of Nezha, the recently released demon that powers the Lazarus Pit, and going head to head with his dear old dad. Mahmud Asrar (who sold a great Batman pin-up at a con a number of years ago that still graces my son's wall) is on the art.
- MASKERADE #1 - Kevin Smith comes back to comics! Along with co-writer Andy McElfresh and artist John Sprengelmeyer, Smith launches his new Dark Horse imprint Secret Stash Press with this vigilante tale of a social media star who dons another identity to take revenge on those who have wronger her.
- LOVECRAFT UNKNOWN KADATH #1 - Florentino Florez, Guillermo Sanna & Jacques Salomon adapt the classic HP Lovecraft joint The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, following Randolph Carter as he travels through dreams to reach the elusive city of Kadath, home of the gods.
- MIDNIGHT SUNS #1 - Just in time for the brand new game (to be pushed back to 2023 then brought forward again to late this year)! That's okay though, because the comic doesn't require any prior knowledge of the game, so sit back and enjoy some of those Marvel horror-adjacent superheroics you all love so well.
- LEAST WE CAN DO #1 - A new fantasy series from Iolanda Zanfardino & Elisa Romboli set in a near future fantasy London which has been ravaged by war. Against this backdrop our protagonist, a smart kid called Uriel, tries to gather magical energy in order to shape a better world, free of violence and terror.
- CASTLE FULL OF BLACKBIRDS #1 - From the pages of Hellboy & the BPRD The Return of Effie Kolb, young psychic Sara May Blackburn gets her own miniseries courtesy of Mike MIgnola, award-winning novelist AG Slatter and artist Valeria Burzo. Sara travels to New York to learn the secrets behind her burgeoning powers from Miss Brook, head teacher of the Linton School For Girls (that I suspect isn't your garden variety school).
- DARK CRISIS WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE WONDER WOMAN #1 - A glimpse into the dream world of Wonder Woman, as Pariah's plan to trap the Justice League and drain their power plays out. Tini Howard and Leila del Duca handle the WW lead story, while Dan Watters and Brandon Peterson supply a Martian Manhunter backup.
And that's it for this week! See you next time!
