The Gosh! Authority 15.10.25
Hello!
Three events this week!
First up, Wednesday brings us the October edition of Reads, and it's a corker this month: The Hobtown Mystery Stories Vol 01 Case of the Missing Men. One of our favourites from last year, so we're looking forward to hearing what people have to say about it! All are welcome, 7-9pm on Wednesday evening, right here at the store!
Then on Friday, 7-9pm, we're hosting the launch party for HELP! Francis Todd and Ethan Llewellyn will be on hand to sell and sign copies of their new two-hander anthology. Details here!
And then on Saturday, 1-2pm, Peter Hogan, Glenn Fabry and Mark Stafford will be here to sign copies of the terrific new horror anthology from Scratch Comics, Peter Hogan's Black Forests! Details here.
Let's get into those comics. The Age of Revelation waits for no-one!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- UNBREAKABLE X-MEN #1 - Gail Simone and Lucas Werneck ring in the Uncanny X-Men replacement. With the Uncanny squad scattered across the world, only three mutants remain at Haven House to hold back the all-consuming darkness of Penumbra. Sounds like trouble at the old mill!
- IRON & FROST #1 - Emma goes back to New York in search of what remains of the Hellfire Club, and its new leader, the Iron King. Who could it be??? Cavan Scott and Ruairí Coleman help to scratch that Iron Man itch for you in the dystopian future of Revelation.
- SINISTERS SIX #1 - It's the Dirty Dozen, Sinister-style, in this Age of Revelation series by David Marquez and Rafael Loureiro. Mr Sinister enlists Havok, Black Cat, Domino, Omega Red, Fantomex and Venom for a mission to unseat Revelation (and install a pale, goateed genius in his place).
- ROGUE STORM #1 - Ororo Munroe has gone mad, and seeks to plunge the world into a new ice age. Rogue enlists Gateway, Iceman, Fantomex, Spiral and Warpath to bring her former teammate down. Murewa Ayodele and Roland Boschi look at what's going on for Earth's last goddess in the Age of Revelation.
- 30 DAYS OF NIGHT FALLING SUN #1 - Those cheeky eclipse-loving vamps are at it again in this 30 Days of Night sequel by Rodney Barnes and Chris Shehan (from a story by Steve Niles). Old secrets never die in Barrow, while a young man fleeing gang violence finds something even worse in the Arctic Circle.
- FANTASTIC FOUR GARGOYLES #1 - You what now? Never mind the Age of Revelation, the Age of the Crossover is upon us (have you seen what's coming up in DC KO?) gargoyles creator Greg Weisman writes this mini, with Enid Balám provising the art. And they do it the right way, just assuming these folks have always been in the same universe. When Diablo rears his ugly mug, the Gargoyles head to the Baxter Building for help.
- SAVE NOW #1 - Saver is a superhero with the ability to travel back in time to stop bad things happening, but only backwards. Each time he must relive through the period he has jumped, aging all the while. After he sees an apocalypse unfolding, he keeps jumping back to change the past, but nothing seems to work. So he retreats into a loop of the best year of his life until something comes along that gives him new determination: a daughter. An interesting, difficult to summarise in a sentence or two series from Matt Kindt and Tomás Giorello.
- MARK SPEARS MONSTERS MONSTER & THE WOLF #1 - A spin-off mini-series from Mark Spears' independent hit set before the events of the main Monsters series. Clint Abbott seeks a cure for his lycanthropic curse, trekking through the Arctic Circle in search of answers. But there's a creature on his tail, a man who was never born. Okay, it's the monster. It's Frankenstein's monster. It's right there in the title! Anyway, blind-bag-o-rama on these babies! Loads of variants all hidden beneath this admittedly quite fetching polybag.
- ENDEAVOUR #1 - If you've ever said to yourself "I really wish someone would do a take on Lord of the Flies, but set on an adrift recreation of the Endeavour, the ship that Lieutenant James Cook sailed around the Pacific to his eventual doom", boy have Stephanie Phillips & Marc Laming got the series for you!
- TERRORBYTES #1 - Similar to his Vanishing Point series, Mark Russell presents a science fiction anthology, this time looking at the connection between technology and humanity. The first issue features a story by Russell and artist Felix Ruiz.
And with that, October is half-done! See you next week!
Andrew.
