The Gosh! Authority 16.08.23
Hello!
No events this week, so I'll take the opportunity to plug a trade out this week which we'll be having an event for next Friday: Cindy & Biscuit - We Love Trouble by local small press stalwart Dan White! Dan has been self-publishing the kid-friendly, monster-bashing adventures of Cindy and her faithful hound Biscuit for years, so we're really excited to see Oni have the good sense to pick him up for publication. Dan will be here next Friday 29th August, 7-9pm, to celebrate, so why don't you join him? Details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- THE CULL #1 (OF 5) - Special award-holder as the only non-X-Book on this week's list! For that achievement alone it can go straight to the top, but it also looks pretty decent, written by fan-fave Kelly Thompson with lovely art by Mattia De Iulis. The setup is five friends assembling to make a short film located at a forbidden rock near their hometown. One of them has a hidden agenda which leads to everything going a bit pear-shaped in rather unnatural ways. Bit Stranger Things, bit Goonies, bit worth checking out!
- UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 (OF 5) - The Unity team is back, assembled by Steve Rogers in the wake of the Krakoan attack that has left mutantkind slaughtered, scattered and vilified thanks to those rotters at Orchis. The squad's first mission is to unmask the murderous imposter who has taken the Captain Kakoa identity. Gerry Duggan and Javier Garron mix and match some Avengers and X-Men!
- DARK X-MEN #1 (OF 5) - Meanwhile, Madelyne Pryor decides to form her own team of X-Men to fight the good mutant fight. Can't feel a lot of stress about being ostracised by humanity when you're the queen of a demon realm, I guess. Anyway, it's a right old bunch of interesting kooks gathered together by Steve Foxe and Jonas Scharf. Including Emplate! With Penance in Uncanny Avengers? Generation X represent!
- ALPHA FLIGHT #1 (OF 5) - And also meanwhile, the signature Canadian superteam reforms to defend against the mutant menace. But as you might expect, some of the more mutant-y former members are not exactly cool with their new mission statement, and intend to let the others know it. Ed Brisson & Scott Godlewski wave the maple leaf flag.
- MARVELS VOICES X-MEN #1 - The latest anthology of diverse voices taking on the cast of the X-Men, with stories by a whole raft of talent including Al Ewing, Carolina Munhóz, Greg Pak, Jay Edidin, Jay Jurden, Marcelo Costa, Raphael Draccon & Sarah Kuhn.
And that's it for this week pals!
Andrew.
