The Gosh! Authority 16.11.22
Hello!
It's Wiper week! Yes, John Harris Dunning and Ricardo Sabral's stunning sci-fi graphic novel releases this week, and we've got John and Ricardo here to celebrate! Come on down and meet these lovely gents on Thursday November 17th, 7-9pm. Details here.
Then on Friday we've got William Goldsmith and Christopher Rainbow in store from 7-9pm to launch their limited edition memoir of life in Russia around the time of the 2018 World Cup. Details here.
And finally, we were deeply saddened last week to learn of the passing of the legendary Kevin O'Neill. Kevin was a one of a kind artist whose impact on British comics art can't be overstated. He was also a familiar face here at Gosh, having worked with us on many events and prints over the years, and was a thoroughly decent, generous, funny and kind man. We'll miss him a lot.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- JUDGE DREDD BY MICK MCMAHON APEX EDITION HC - Bit of a pre-Christmas treat for you (and me) as Rebellion brings out their second Apex edition spotlighting the mighty Mick McMahon! A mix of complete stories and cherry-picked pages from the golden age of thrillpower that is a must, a MUST I say, for any Dredd fan.
- BATMAN ONE BAD DAY ME FREEZE #1 - Victor Fries gets the flashback treatment in this one-shot by Gerry Duggan and Mateo Scalera, who is doing a typically stunning job on that cover. In the early days of Batman's career, Gotham is gripped by one of the coldest winters it has ever seen. So cold that Mister Freeze is able to function outside of his containament suit, and grips the city in a reign of criminal terror.
- STARGIRL THE LOST CHILDREN #1 - Geoff Johns follows up his New Golden Age with the first issue of a six part mini featuring one of his most personal creations (named for his sister who died in an air disaster). Courtney teams up with Red Arrow to solve a mystery of missing teenage sidekicks from the golden age. Teen superhero supremo Todd Nauck provides the art.
- STAR WARS HIDDEN EMPIRE #1 - Charles Soule and Steven Cummings begin the final part of Soule's event trilogy that began with War of the Bounty Hunters. Now, following the events of Crimson Reign, Q'ira and Emperor Palpatine approach their final showdown as the Knights of Ren and the Empire go head to head.
- KROMA #1 - Lorenzo de Felici, artist on Robert Kirkman's Oblivion Song, writes and draws this new fantasy series. A young orphan frees a girl who is believed to be the most evil creature alive from her imprisonment, and the two attempt to escape the mysterious city they dwell in, into a larger world that might be even more dangerous.
- I HATE FAIRYLAND #1 - A grown up Gert is trying to get back into the place she hates the most: Fairyland. Skottie Young doesn't draw this all new follow-up to his beloved original, but he's on the writing, joined by artist Brett Bean, whose work with Young on their Rocket & Groot series certainly showed he has the chops.
- BLADE VAMPIRE NATION #1 - After recent events in the Avengers, Blade now acts as the sheriff of the Vampire Nation, a kingdom of vamps ruled by Dracula. Mark Russell and Mico Suayan spin a tale of Blade investigating an assassination plot that he's not sure he really wants to stop.
- CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE WINTER SOLDIER SPECIAL #1 - A one-shot adventure that's more Winter Soldier than it is Captain America, looking at the impact of new Cap baddies the Outer Circle on the future of Bucky Barnes. Written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing with art by Kev Walker (and if he's drawing, I'm reading).
- GOLD GOBLIN #1 - The rehabilitated Norman Osborn dons his new superhero persona, the Gold Goblin. But being called a Goblin of any kind might just be more than Norman's fragile psyche can bear in this mini by Christopher Cantwell and Lan Medina.
- ROGUE STATE #1 - In a future where a contested election plummets the country into political violence, a figure leads an armed separatist movement to create a new state that spans the country. Hot topic sci-fi from Matteo Pizzolo & Carlos Granda.
- VOYAGIS #1 - An alien race on the verge of extinction finds the Voyager probe and a chance for a new beginning in this sci-fi miniseries by Sumeyye Kesgin.
- MURDERWORLD AVENGERS #1 - Arcade is at it again, but one journalist seeks to uncover his deadly games (with a little superheroic help) in this series of one-shots by Jim Zub, Ray Fawkes and Jethro Morales.
And that's it for this week, folks!
