The Gosh! Authority 16.12.20

Hello!

Christmas is just around the corner, so we'd better drop some Christmas admin for all you hardcore Opening Hours and Delivery Day types!

As mentioned in a previous blog, new comics will be shipping as normal on Wednesday the 23rd December. Then there will be no new comics for the UK in the week between Christmas and New Year (they will be shipping in the States, so don't panic if you see reviews, etc from US sites). The next new comics day will be Wednesday the 6th January (2021!), when we'll be receiving two weeks worth of books.

And our Christmas hours will be as follows:

Monday 21st - Wednesday 23rd December: 10.30am - 6pm

Thursday 24th December: 10.30am - 3pm

Friday 25th & Saturday 26th December: CLOSED

Sunday 27th - Wednesday 30th December: 10.30am - 6pm

Thursday 31st December: 10.30am - 3pm

Friday 1st January: CLOSED

Saturday 2nd January onward: 10.30am - 6pm

Okay, let's talk comics!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • RECKLESS HC - Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are really embracing the OGN format now with the first in a trilogy of graphic novels. It's a slice of 80's LA neo-noir with an actual, honest-to-goodness likeable main protagonist and some glowing early reviews. Ethan Reckless is a man who fixes problems, but might have some problems of his own when he's contacted by someone from his radical student days. Should be three of these coming our way over the next year, and we'll be filing them for anyone who gets Criminal, so we've got you covered. We've also got limited quantities of a signed bookplate that Image have produced for the release, so get in early if you want one of those!

  • POST AMERICANA #1 (OF 6) - Steve Skroce is back with a post-apocalyptic story of America's "elite" emerging from their super bunker into a ravaged world crawling with mutant raiders. Declaring themselves the rulers of this new world, they work to subjugate the population, but one wasteland girl has other ideas. If Skroce's previous underrated series Maestros was any indication, expect crazy detail, kinetic action, a dash of humour and insane levels of ultraviolence.

  • SOLID BLOOD #17 - That cheeky Robert Kirkman is at it again, dropping a sneak release with a daft, fun conceit: it's a comic that is apparently by Kirman and Ryan Ottley, but he claims to have never made it. It just showed up in the warehouse, so they decided to distribute it. So don't go looking for issues 1-16, because we guess they're still lurking in the parallel dimension this one came from. Other than that we don't really know much about it, but given the creative team it's probably worth a look.

  • NIGHT HUNTERS #1 (OF 4) - Dave Baker & Alexis Ziritt (of Space Riders fame) go cyberpunk with this thriller set in Venezuela, 100 years in the future. Two brothers do their best to survive in Gran Caracas, where your choices are become a cop or become a corpse.

  • EXPANSE #1 (OF 4) - A new series based on the hit show (itself based on the hit novel series). This mini slots in between seasons four and five of the show, focusing on Chrisjen Avasarala and Bobbie Draper (always a fun duo). Corinna Bechko & Alejandro Aragon perform the creative duties.

  • KING IN BLACK IMMORTAL HULK #1 - A King in Black tie-in, mainly notable for the team of Al Ewing and Aaron Kuder at ther helm, which kind of makes it proper Immortal Hulk. Also, the Hulk on that cover is wicked.

  • BLADE RUNNER 2029 #1 - Michael Green & Mike Johnson return with artist Andres Guinaldo for a new series of Blade Runner, jumping 10 years into the future from the last mini. Ash is still hunting replicants on the streets of Los Angeles, but her mission now is one of protection rather than termination.

  • TALES OF THE DARK MULTIVERSE CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #1 - When it comes to tackling big DC events in the Dark Multiverse, they don't come much bigger than Crisis on Infinite Earths. Steve Orlando and Mike Perkins tell the aftermath of Crisis in a universe where it was Earth 2 that survived the cataclysmic event.

  • BLACK CAT #1 KIB - Black Cat's solo series reappears after going AWOL during the pandemic. She even gets a shiny new #1 by previous series writer Jed MacKay & artist C.F. Villa.

  • HOUSE OF EL TP BOOK 01 THE SHADOW THREAT - The first in a trilogy of YA graphic novels telling the story of Krypton's last days through the eyes of two Kryptonian teens. Zahn is a child of elites, while Sera is a low-ranked soldier. Together they begiun to put together the pieces of a dark secret at the heart of Kryptonian society.

And that's in for this week. Happy last-minute Christmas shopping, folks!

Andrew.
