The Gosh! Authority 17.02.21

Hello!

Late-arriving invoice this week, and I'm at home looking after the kids, so this might be a little quick! The good news is that the books from last week have turned up, so it's a satisfyingly chunky week of reading with some great regular titles. If you were dithering over mail order or click and collect, now's the time to pull the trigger.

In other news:

  • It was our 35th birthday on Sunday, so happy birthday to us!
  • We are currently taking part in the London Bookshop Crawl online until the 17th February. Go here for details, and until that date if you buy anything on our webstore, use the coupon code GOSHLBSC2021 at checkout for 10% off your purchases!
  • Still no word on when we can reopen, but with vaccinations rolling out apace and schools looking to reopen in England from the 8th March, things are looking hopeful.
  • Apologies if we are a little tardy responding to emails. We did a stock check at the end of last week, which wrote off 3 days of tackling anything else, so we're a bit behind.

That's about that. My kids are currently occupied with a complicated homebrew variation on Floor is Lava, so let's quickly get to the comics...

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • X-MEN LEGENDS #1 - Come with me now back to the mullets, leather jackets and soapy angst of yesteryear in this new series of untold tales of the X-Men. Writers of key eras will revisit their time with suitable artists in tow to give a sweet, sweet hit of X-talgia for the longtime fans. Kicking it all off is 90's scribe Fabian Nicieza with Brett Booth on art.

  • RADIANT BLACK #1 - Image launches a new superhero title, and it's getting a lot of positive buzz. Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa brings us the story of Nathan Burnett, a guy who's down on his luck until a cosmic accident grants him superpowers. Which is well and good, until the powers that granted them decide they want them back.

  • BLACK HAMMER VISIONS #1 (OF 8) - Different creators take on characters from Jeff Lemire's beloved super-saga in this new anthology series. This first issue has Patton Oswalt and Dean Kotz telling a story about Golden Gail set before the events of Black Hammer.

  • ORCS #1 (OF 6) - Adventure Time artist Christine Larsen gets her creator-owned hat on for this fantasy romp starring a band of exiled orcs. This looks like it's a fun time for any fantasy fans, and Larsen's art is a treat. 30 pages of story in every issue, too.

  • TRUTH & JUSTICE #1 - It's a DC team-up book which looks like it's going to bring some unsung heroes into the mix. Case-in-point: the first issue teams Vixen up with Dr. Mist and Impala of the Global Guardians. Geoffrey Thorne and Jordi Tarragona do the honours.

  • IMMORTAL HULK FLATLINE #1 - The Immortal Hulk one-shots continue, this one with Declan Shalvey on writing and art duties. Looks pretty damn nice!

  • DC LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD #1 - Happy Belated Valentine's Day! The usual 80-page seasonal anthology, filled with tales of superhero romance.

  • KING IN BLACK BLACK PANTHER #1 - The latest King in Black tie-in heads to Wakanda courtesy of writer Geoffrey Thorne (second appearance this week!) with art by Germán Peralta.

  • HOLLOW HEART #1 - Gorgeous cover on this Vault series by Paul Allor and Paul Tucker. It's a future love story between a mechanic and the once-human, bio-suit-maintained jumble of body parts he's been brought in to maintain.

  • MORBIUS BOND OF BLOOD #1 - A new Morbius mini, with Ralph Macchio and Tom Reilly vamping it up.

And that's it! Time to get out of the house before the rugrats kill each other. See you next week!
