The Gosh! Authority 17.03.21

Hello!

Hope you're all keeping well. Some really great releases this coming week (we're on a good run), so we'll get right to those. One thing I did want to mention though is that we will be starting to process returns on our DC Future State titles this week. Not something we usually get to do, but DC offered it on FS and we're certainly going to take them up on it. So if there are any Future State titles you were interested in let us know ASAP.

Oh, and a big thank you to everyone who's made an effort to clear their standing orders of late. We've managed to shave two long boxes off our S/O overspill, which is pretty impressive given the size of last week's delivery. Still plenty there though, so do please arrange for collection or mail order if you haven't done so recently!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ORPHAN & FIVE BEASTS #1 (OF 4) - As much as I pray nightly for Orc Stain #8, I'll take whatever James Stokoe I can get, especially a creator owned project like this. Stokoe indulges what is obviously a love for the kung fu epics of the 60's and 70's (with a liberal dash of Monkey, the 70's Japanese tv adaptation of Journey to the West). It's a four issue mini-series following Orphan Mo, as he tracks down his master's five former disciples, who have transformed into demonic beastmen. Honestly, this is my most anticipated book this year!

  • FALL TP VOL 01 - You may have come across Jared Muralt's work a while back when we carried two of the Swiss artist's books, The End of Bon Voyage and Hellship. His beautifully clean, detailed style drips with a mix of influences, from Moebius to Otomo. We're delighted to see Image pick up his latest work, an apocalyptic road trip which sees a recently bereaved father struggling to keep his children safe as the world goes to hell. It's a great book, and we're also lucky enough to have a limited number of signed mini prints that Jared has supplied to select stores (see below). These are first come, first served, so let me know ASAP if you want one, as they're going quick.

  • ULTRAMEGA BY JAMES HARREN #1 - If there's one thing James Harren, former BPRD and Rumble artist, does well, it's monsters. (He actually does many things well, but the monster stuff is next-level.) So we're very much on board for this new book which goes giant-sized with the beastly action. The Ultramega are humanity's last line of defense against rampaging kaiju, their battles leaving devastation in their wake. As we join them, their greatest challenge - possibly their final challenge - awaits. The series kicks off with a bumper 60 page debut, and each following issue will also be oversized. What a treat!

  • SUPERMAN RED & BLUE #1 - Kind of like Batman Black and White, but Red (white) and Blue? You know the drill: a number of talented creators (and DC are very good at wrangling talent for these) do short stories that showcase the character in the limited palette defined by the title. This issue features John Ridley, Clayton Henry, Brandon Easton, Steve Lieber, Wes Craig, Marguerite Bennett, Jill Thompson, Dan Watters and Dani!

  • JUSTICE LEAGUE #59 - Over here, Bendis-watchers! As he leaves the Legion behind, Bendis takes on DC's greatest super-team along with frequent collaborator David Marquez. They kick off their run with a significant line-up shuffle: Superman, Batman, the Flash, Green Arrow and Aquaman are joined by Black Canary, Hawkgirl, Hippolyta, Naomi and, yep, Black Adam. Their first challenge: a menace from Naomi's homeworld which threatens to destroy our. And in the back is the new home for Ram V and Xermanico's Justice League Dark, which now runs as a regular backup feature!

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE #1 - Similar to the recent Giant Size X-Men Tribute, this issue is a re-creation of Captain America #1 and Avengers #4 by a huge roster of artistic talent. These are curious projects, but the X-Men one was quite enjoyable and the artist line-up on this is insane. Check it out here.

  • MARIA LLOVETS EROS PSYCHE #1- A new Maria Llovet series which plays to all of her strengths: horror, drama, eroticism and magic are all in the mix in this story of two pupils at a girls boarding school which teaches a standard curriculum by day, and witchcraft by night.

  • BEQUEST #1 - A group of heroes from a high fantasy land come through to our world on the trail of stolen artifacts that are being traded on a black market for magical goods in Chicago. It's a fun fish-out-of-water conceit that flips the usual script, by Tim Seeley and Freddie Williams II.

  • BLACK KNIGHT CURSE EBONY BLADE #1 - Following his King in Black one-shot, Dane Whitman is back with an all new mini-series written by Simon Spurrier with art by Sergio Fernandez Davila.

  • KING IN BLACK SPIDER-MAN #1 - And speaking of King in Black, we're not quite done with the spin-offs yet! Seems pretty late in the piece for Spidey to feature, but he's here at last, courtesy of Jed MacKay and Michele Bandini.

And that's that! See you next week!

Andrew.
