The Gosh! Authority 17.05.23

Hello!

UK comics royalty Peter Hogan will be with us this Saturday from 1-2pm signing copies of the Resident Alien Omnibus, the second volume of which drops this week. If you're a fan of the show, treat yourself by going back to the source! Get the details here.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • AVENGERS #1 - It's a new era for Marvel's premier superteam as Jed MacKay & Carlos Villa take charge. With a new #1 comes a new team who are squaring off against a classic John Byrne villain: Terminus. Plus there's some "enemy within" drama, but what Avengers team is complete without a little of that?

  • TITANS #1 - Meanwhile over at DC another classic team gets a relaunch with the starry creative paring of Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott. In the wake of Dark Crisis, the classic Teen Titans line-up reforms to take the place of the JLA (though a bit less of the "teen" these days).

  • VIGIL #1 - The new Indian superteam seen in the pages of Lazarus Planet and Detective Comics debut their own series created by Ram V & Lalit Kumar Sharma. The mysterious group work to stop the proliferation of dangerous new strange technologies in a pitch that feels like a mash-up of Mission Impossible and Planetary.

  • BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #1 - A new Batman anthology title, with quite the set of names to kick it off. This issue features the beginning of serials by Tom King & Mitch Gerads, Ed Brisson & Jeff Spokes, and Christopher Cantwell & Javier Rodriguez, plus an all-new black & white one-shot written and drawn by Dan Mora!

  • MISS TRUESDALE AND THE FALL OF HYPERBOREA #1 - Jesse Lonergan joins the Mignolaverse with this new series written by Mignola himself. Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra member Miss Truesdale discovers a Hyperborean past life, which she channels in order to hopefully change the future. Mignola and Lonergan shift away from the Lovecraftian influence and channel some Robert E Howard on this with some raw, barbaric action.

  • ARCADE KINGS #1 - Dylan Burnett writes and draws this new heavilymanga-influenced series about a battling game champion whose haunted past is coming for him like a freight train. Bright, action-packed, OTT fun.

  • CYBORG #1 - Not just a Titans week, but Vic gets a whole new series just to himself! Morgan Hampton & Tom Raney send him back to Detroit, where a sinister company is creating a new runaway AI.

  • DANNY KETCH GHOST RIDER #1 - It's the latest installment of "untold tales of Marvel heroes for 90's kids" as we head back to the Danny Ketch Spirit of Vengeance era with Ketch creator Howard Mackie and artist Daniel Picciotto. I am of a certain age to enjoy these flashback series, but I wish they'd managed to nab Javier Saltares for this.

  • DARK SPACES GOOD DEEDS #1 - The Scott Snyder-masterminded series of minis looking at the darker side of humanity continues with this new installment by Che Grayson & Kelsey Ramsay. A teenage girl and a disgraced journalist team up to uncover the secret history of a small Florida town after an horrific incident at their 450th anniversary celebrations.

And that's that! Oh, except that Neal Adams fans should check out Back Issue this week, as it's a tribute to the great man.

Okay, now I'm outta here!

Andrew.
