The Gosh! Authority 17.07.24

Hello!

This Wednesday, 7-9pm, sees us hosting the launch party for Dogdunnit, the latest picturebook by Peter Bently and Gosh fave Tor Freeman! The pair will be happily signing away and toasting the release of their new book, so come on down! Details here.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • PEEPSHOW #15 - The final posthumous issue of Joe Matt's oft-notorious, much-loved autobiographical series. Discovered after his passing and assembled and finished by his pal Chester Brown (who inked the last 4 pages), this is your classic Peepshow, 17 years in the making: self-involved, funny, uncomfortable and brutally honest.

  • PARANOID GARDENS #1 - Gerard Way returns to comics, collaborating with old co-writer Shaun Simon and the one and only Chris Weston. The series follows Lee, a nurse who works in a hospital which treats a pretty wide variety of patients, human, alien and the supernatural alike. Sounds like a recipe for an harmonius, dull workplace.

  • PHOENIX #1 - Jean Grey embraces her cosmic side with a series set in the depths of space, where the power of the Phoenix can be brought to bear. This issue sees her help Nova save a bunch of folks from a black hole, so you get an idea of where this is going. Stephanie Phillips and Alessandro Miracolo launch a new beginning for Jean.

  • POWERPUFF GIRLS #1 - Powerpuff Girls comics are one of those no-brainer ideas that are always welcome, and have come around again thanks to Kelly Thompson and Paulina Ganucheau. Dynamite have actually been doing a great job with their recent spate of kids animation-related comics. While they have the usual swathe of variant covers, they've got decent people on the interiors making for solid kids comics. Always good to see!

  • DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL ALLWINTER #1 - Tom Taylor teams up with co-writer Jay Kristoff and artist Tirso Cons for a new series set in DC's Elseworlds fantasy world. This mini follows Deathstroke, a Norse assassin who fights to free his land from a dark curse. I've got a real soft spot for the Dark Knights of Steel stuff, so I'm rather excited for this one.

  • NAMOR #1 - Namor goes a bit Game of Thrones in this new series from Jason Aaron and Paul Davidson, which sees an imprisoned Namor turning his back on the seas, while a battle for oceanic dominance rages beneath the surface. All sounds a bit epic, with new revelations about the history of Atlantis, and new factions revealed, such as the Elder Whales.

  • DAREDEVIL WOMAN WITHOUT FEAR #1 - Erica Schultz & Michael Dowling continue the adventures of Elektra Natchios, aka, Daredevil (the other one). In the wake of Daredevil #11, she's down in Madripoor, dispensing some DD justice.

  • ELRIC THE NECROMANCER #1 (OF 2) - Michael Moorcock's classic anti-hero has a storied history in comics, with this new series reprinting another of the excellent French adaptations of the original stories. Julien Blondel and Jean-Luc Cano are your creative team on this one.

  • ROCKETEER BREAKS FREE #1 - Current regular Rocketeer scribe Stephen Mooney is joined by artist Staz Johnson for this latest mini. This time Cliff is off to San Francisco with Betty, who's joined the cast of a movie being shot there. Doesn't take long before there's runaway cable cars, trouble at Alcatraz and, of course, Nazis.

  • WITCHBLADE #1 - Sara Pezzini gets the reboot treatment in this new series by Marguerite Bennett & Giuseppe Cafaro. We're back to basics and back to the origins of Witchblade, with some new twists and turns thrown into this reimagining.

  • X-MEN BLOOD HUNT LAURA KINNEY THE WOLVERINE #1 - Wolverine (the other one) gets to spike some vamps in this Blood Hunt tie-in by Stephanie Phillips & Robert Gill.

and one last thing that it occurs to me I never gave a spotlight a couple of weeks back due to its stealthy release!

  • MOON KNIGHT FIST OF KONSHU #0 - A surprise-release one-shot setting the stage for the next chapter in Jed McKay & Alessandro Cappuccio's Moon Knight run, with a new #1 coming in October.

And that's all, folks! See you next week!

Andrew.
