The Gosh! Authority 17.08.22
Hello!
Paul here again, filling-in for Andrew once more. All I can say at this point is don’t worry, it’s not permanent. Although not as ram-packed with comics as last week, there’s still a great set of books out plus some cool stuff going on in the shop, starting with Nick Drsano dropping by for the launch party of his latest work, Acting Class. This is happening on Tuesday 16th August, 7-9 pm, so mark it in your diary. You can get more details right here.
The other big news for you or perhaps someone you know is that we are hiring again! We are searching for a Bookseller, in a customer-facing role that needs a good mix of people skills, knowledge, attention to detail and common sense. You'll also need to be able to remain cool under pressure, as the store can get extremely busy. Find out more here!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- BATMAN: ONE BAD DAY – THE RIDDLER #1 – This is the first in a highly anticipated series of one-shots from key, modern-age Batman writers and artists. For this opening salvo, we get Tom King and Mitch Gerads on the deadly quiz master himself!
- A.X.E.: DEATH TO THE MUTANTS #1 – AXE is unlike other Marvel events, purely on the basis of how much of it is actually being written by it’s chief architect, Kieron Gillen. Here, he teams with artist Guiu Vilanova for the moment that will tip the Eternals. Avengers and X-Men over into war!
- 20TH CENTURY MEN #1 – I love a good alt-history comic and this first issue from Deniz Camp and S. Morian ticks all the boxes. In a world that never was, a Soviet Iron Man and a super-powered American president collide in a fusion of politics, history and super-heroics!
- AVENGERS: 1000,000 B.C. #1 – The Savage Avengers secrets are uncovered in this opening issue spinning out of Jason Aaron’s Avengers run. If you want to know what connects the Phoenix Force to Thor’s origin… you’ll find out here! Aaron is working with Kev Walker on this, so you know it’s going to look good!
- HEART EYES #1 – Sanity eating monsters and romance? Two of our favourites! Dennis Hopeless and Victor Ibáñez bring us a tale of what happens when you finally meet the woman of your dreams at the end of the world.
- TRVE KVLT #1 – Scott Bryan Wilson and Liana Kangas turn their attentions to the‘80s influenced slacker heist genre (yeah, admittedly, it’s a slim field) for the latest in IDW’s new slew of Originals. The first of these was Scott Snyder’s and Hayden Sherman’s Dark Spaces: Wildfire so this is definitely worth checking out!
- X-MEN UNLIMITED: GREEN #1 – The X-Men Unlimited stuff has been a lot of fun, taking advantage of the scrolling vertical screens the young whippersnappers are sometimes reading comics on nowadays – and they’re just as good in print! Main X-Man Gerry Duggan sides up with Emilio Laiso for this Nature Girl / Logan team-up.
- THE LAST SHADOWHAWK #1 – Image’s 30th Birthday celebrations have brought back a lot of great characters missed by readers. Now it’s the turn of Shadowhawk, Image’s dark avenger, here getting the futuristic treatment courtesy of Brian Haberlin and Philip Tan!
See you next week!
