HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • DEADPOOL / BATMAN #1 - Been a while since we last saw the Marvel and DC universes collide, but the call of artistic integrity was too great for the Big Two, red tape be damned! Okay, snark aside even I can't deny there's always a little thrill in the intercompany crossovers, so I too will be eagerly picking this up. It's the Marvel-published side of the pair, with DCs Batman / Deadpool to follow. Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo handle the lead story, and we've got short crossover backups from the likes of Al Ewing, Ryan North, Kevin Smith, Kelly Thompson, Chip Zdarsky, Terry Dodson, Gurihiru, Adam Kubert, Dike Ruan, Ryan Stegman and some guy called Frank Miller.

  • SPECTATORS HC - Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon's formerly Panel Syndicate-exclusive comic about ghosts, romance and humanity's voyeuristic love of sex and violence. It's a pretty unique book, straddling a fine line between being very silly and having something quite profound to say, all the while being a compelling, entertaining read. Oh, and it's filled with sex and violence, so don't read it on the train.

  • THE BAT-MAN: SECOND KNIGHT #1 - A follow-up to Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins' smash hit Black Label Batman series set in the pulp-era of his earliest days. It's 1940, and the Bat-Man is now embroiled in a mystery involving elaborately-staged murders, with a hangman's noose calling card his only clue. Ace reporter Lois Lane hits town, determined to get to the bottom of things.

  • MARVEL ZOMBIES RED BAND #1 - A red-band edition that makes sense, though to be honest I don't recall previous series particularly skimping on the gore. Anyhow, Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan and Jan Bazaldua take us back to the beginning of the Marvel Zombies universe, as Reed Richards, Ben Grimm and Sue & Johnny Storm come back from their space flight changed, but not just in the way you're used to.

  • GOOD AS DEAD #1 - David and Maria Lapham return with another thriller, this time set in a small port town whose only connection to the outside world is an old and storied bridge. After an horrific incident that foreshadows violence to come, Sheriff David Calhoun must stand up to forces that are determined to tear his town apart. With this and all the old Bad Idea stuff coming through at last, I'm in Lapham hog heaven right now!

    • NO MAN'S LAND #1 - A Cold War thriller from Szymon Kudrański set in 1963 in the frozen no man's land between Alaska and the Soviet Union. Two agents, one from the FBI and the other from the KGB, must work together to solve a brutal murder before the political situation spirals out of control.

    • VOYEUR #1 - Leah Williams and David Baldeón spin a story about a Thai resort, its head of security, an exhaustive netork of surveillance cameras, an attractive new guest, and an art heist worth millions.

    • STAR WARS BOBA FETT BLACK, WHITE & RED #1 - Boba Fett gets the black, white and red treatment in a mini-series of one-shot stories by different creators. Benjamin Percy and Chris Allen kick things off with a volcanic bounty!

And with that, I'm outta here! See you next week!

    Andrew.
