The Gosh! Authority 18.01.23
Hello!
Not much to talk about up top here this week, so I'll give a little plug to a book that many of you may have missed. Acclaimed film-maker Ben Wheatley recently teamed with artist Joe Currie to create a love letter to the kind of 70s sci-fi that populated the pages of Heavy Metal. Kosmik Musik is that book, and we've just had a restock of this highly limited item in its slipcased, signed, complete with soundtrack CD by BEAK> glory. Get it here while you can!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- WASP #1 - Following up his excellent Ant-Man mini, Al Ewing is back with artist Kasia Nie to celebrate the life and career (and 60th anniversary) of Janet van Dyne, the Wasp! Much like the Ant-Man series, each issue is set during a particular era of the Wasp's career, starting at the dawn of the super-hero era. Plus more of those lovely Tom Reilly covers!
- BATMAN ONE BAD DAY BANE #1 - The next of the One Bad Day one-shots, focusing on the old back-breaker himself. Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter take us from Bane's earliest days to his future as a washed up wrestler, intent on destroying a venom-making facility to stop it destroying anybody else's life.
- IMMORTAL SERGEANT #1 - The I Kill Giants team of Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura reunite for this all new story of a detective on the trail of his last case. Jim Sargent is about to retire, but when he gets a lead on a cold case that's haunted his career, he drags his adult, anxiety-ridden son along with him to chase it down. What ensues is as much family drama as thrilling crime case, but if you've read I KIll Giants then you know these guys can pull it off.
- LAZARUS PLANET ASSAULT ON KRYPTON #1 - A one-shot spotlighting the effect of the Lazarus volcano on Earth's Kryptonians (and associated folks) in a series of short stories. Frank J. Barbiere, Leah Williams, C.S. Pacat, Nicole Maines, Sami Basri, Vicente Cifuentes, Scott Godlewski, Marguerite Sauvage & Skylar Patridge contribute.
- WHITE SAVIOR #1 - A satirical skewering of the Last Samurai, this mini follows a Japanese-American teacher, Todd Parker, who is thrown back in time to 17th century Japan. There he meets Nathan Garin, an American military officer who is the prophecied savior of the village of Inoki. But far from the heroic ideal, Garin is actually a violent, racist idiot who is leading the village to its doom. Can Todd convince the townsfolk to ditch the American? You've got 4 issues to find out!
And that's it from me! Until next time...
Andrew.
