The Gosh! Authority 18.06.25
Hello!
It's another event-packed week for you! First up, one of our absolute favourite creators Gareth Brookes will be here on Thursday, 7-9pm, to launch his new graphic novel The Compleat Angler, an adaptation of Izaak Walton's 1653 classic. Details here.
Then on Friday, 7-9pm, we're having a party with the folks of the wonderful Colossive Cartographies series to celebrate their 5th birthday! Details here.
And finally, on Saturday, 1-2pm, L.D. Lapinksi and Logan Hanning will be here to sign copies of their coming of age skater comic Kick Flip! Details here.
Those of you who were with us during the early days of the pandemic will remember that in the mad scramble to find any way whatsoever to try and sell some stuff and keep the lights on, we launched a Gosh Sales groupon Facebook. It was a way to offer deals on back issues, second hand GNs and more that might be otherwise overlooked, and a fun way to stay engaged with our customers. Well, I'm happy to say that although we're not in the grip of an existential crisis (well, not that kind, anyway), we have relaunched the page! Lots of bargains offered every week on a first-come, first-served basis. Head on over to the page, read the about info, and get shopping!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- KRYPTO THE LAST DOG OF KRYPTON #1 - Ryan North and Mike Norton bring us the origin story that everyone will be clamouring for once James Gunn's film hits. Honestly, if he's not the breakout star amongst the non-comics reading public I'll eat my hat. Anyway, good creative team, fun character to deal with, and an absolutely stunning Jae Lee cover. What more do you need, people!
- BRING ON THE BAD GUYS DOOM #1 - The first of a series of linked one-shots celebrating the baddies of the Marvel Universe as featured in the original Bring on the Bad Guys GN from 1976. There's a magical macguffin called the Soulforge, a mysterious new character called Sister Sorrow, and some dastardly dealings with Mephisto! Marc Guggenheim and Stefano Raffaele kick it all off with a touch of DOOM!
- BENJAMIN #1 - Phillip K Dick fans get your wallets out, Ben H. Winters and Leomacs have crafted a new mind-bending piece of sci-fi that tips its hat to the late, great author. A cult science fiction writer from the 60s, deceased in 1982, finds himself mysteriously resurrected in 2025 and comes face to face with his legacy, and the mystery of exactly who or what he is.
- EMMA FROST THE WHITE QUEEN #1 - Amy Chu & Andrea Di Vito dig into Emma Frost's past for a story set during her time as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. She's on the trail of a mole in the HC, someone leaking secrets to the X-Men. Shame she's about to get stitched up, with all eyes on her as the suspect.
- JEFF THE LAND SHARK #1 - Forget the digital series reprints, online sensation Jeff the Shark now gets his own print-first mini-series! Seriously, you wouldn't believe how many Marvel Rivals fans we get every week looking for Jeff the Shark comics. Well, Kelly Thompson and Tokitokoro are more than happy to oblige them (and maybe you)!
- BYTCHCRAFT #1 - A queer urban fantasy by Aaron Reese & Lema Carril which follows a coven of witches, each with their own specialist skills. With a supernatural eclipse hanging over New York City, the three find themselves smack bang in the middle of an ancient prophecy, one which will make or break all wytchkind.
- GODZILLA VS AVENGERS #1 - Godzilla meets Rashomon in this episode of the Big G / Marvel one-shots, as SHIELD tries to piece together the real story of what happened in a fight between the Avengers, Godzilla, Fin Fang Foom and Jet Jaguar. Only David F. Walker and Georges Jeanty know the truth!
- THEY CHOOSE VIOLENCE #1 - A group of women tire of the injustices they see around them and take vigilante revenge on acquitted white supremacists. They find themselves drawn into an increasingly seductive world of violence and revenge, but when copycat killings begin to occur, the situation escalates. Sheldon Allen and Mauricio Campetella tell a story of how seductive revenge can be, and how destructive.
And on that positive note, that's all I have for you today! Until next week, chums!
Andrew.
