Hello!

cat-and-dumpling-600.jpg

We've got a lovely kids book launch this Wednesday, 7-9pm, as we're joined by Nicola Kent to celebrate the release of her new chapter book Cat and Dumpling: Home Sweet Home! It's a sweet looking book for the little 'uns, so come grab a copy. Details here.

Absolute monster of a week this week, with last week and this week's Image titles, and then all kids of goodies, from the first post-Kentaro Miura Berserk volume to a new Love and Rockets to Saga, and that's just the beginning. Hell, we've even got Superman The Last Days of Lex Luthor #2! Definitely a week worth popping in for!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • ABSOLUTE FLASH #1 - The second wave of the Absolute Universe kicks off with Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles introducing us to the 15 year old Wally West, the son of a military scientist who's about to have the worst two days of his life. I've read a preview of the first issue and it's a very solid start, with Lemire and Robles both delivering the goods, including a rather intriguing role for Barry Allen.

  • ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #1 - A lot of hype around this new series by writer-of-the-moment Deniz Camp and artist Eric Zawadzki. It's a return to the kind of allegorical sci-fi that Deniz made his name on with 20th Century Men, as this anthology series sets itself in a world which is firmly our own, and yet is utterly unlike it. Time is fractured here, and everything is happening all at once, with realities flickering in and out of people's day to day lives as they just try to get on with living. We're expecting big things from this one!

  • OUT OF ALCATRAZ #1 - Christopher Cantwell teams up with the amazing Tyler Crook for a fictionalised story about the men who escaped the notorious San Franciscan prison, and what might have happened to them afterwards. Life on the run, it turns out, is no picnic, especially with the FBI on their trail, and the expectations of the mysterious benefactor that enabled their release hanging over them. Looks like a gripping, beautifully illustrated crime comic.

  • MOUSE GUARD DAWN OF THE BLACK AXE #1 - The return of David Peterson's rodent fantasy epic, this time with Locke & Key artist Gabriel Rodríguez on art. We're going way back in the history of the MG world, with the origin story of mythic weapon the  Black Axe, and it's first wielder Bardrick.

  • LA STRONG #1 - A benefit comic for comics creators who lost their homes in the LA fires eaturing the likes of Barbara Kessel, Brian Azzarello, Brian Michael Bendis, Christos Gage, Dan DiDio, Daniel Kibblesmith, Frank Tieri, Greg Pak, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jody Houser, Marv Wolfman, Paul Cornell, Rob DenBleyker, Sina Grace, Stephanie Phillips, Steve Orlando, Alex Cormack, Alison Sampson, Amanda Conner, Christian Ward, Geraldo Borges, Ian Churchill, Michael Avon Oeming, Nico Leon, Rian Gonzales, Salvador Larroca, Sami Kivelä, and more!

  • DC X SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1 - Sonic gets backup from the Justice League when Darkseid sets his sights on the Sonic universe as a source of power. It's a bash-the-toys-together-a-thon by Ian Flynn and Adam Bryce Thomas, that will undoubtedly feature a Sonic / Flash race, or I'll eat my trainers.

  • WHO ARE THE POWER PALS #1 - Two washed up actors who played superheroes on tv in the 90s decide to get their old costumes back on to earn some money getting tips for photos on Hollywood Boulevard. But when they get filmed standing up for some tourists, they decide to try their hand at doing some crime-fighting, only to find themselves in the bad books of a local crime lord. A fun looking book from Duane Murray & Ahmed Raafat.

And that's it for the new stuff. That and plenty more to keep you reading this week!
