The Gosh! Authority 19.06.24

Hello!

We're very lucky to have a kids comics superstar here this Saturday, 1-2pm, in the form of John Patrick Green! John is the creator of smash hit series Investigators and spin-off Agents of S.U.I.T., and will be here to sign your (or your kid's) copies. Don't have it yet? We'll have plenty, so do yourself a favour! Get the details here.

But first, new comics! Let's peel back the lid and see what we can see!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • UNCLE SCROOGE AND THE INFINITY DIME #1 - You're in Marvel editorial. The inevitable word has come down from your Disney masters: it's time for new Uncle Scrooge comics, and Marvel is where it's going to happen. You're ready: there's a deep stable of Italian art talent available due to the continued popularity of Duck comics there, and Marvel has strong ties to that creative community. But who to write it? Then it occurs to you: Scalped; Wolverine; PunisherMAX; Ghost Rider; Southern Bastards. All signs lead to one man, and that man is Jason Aaron. So get ready for the world's greediest duck, Marvel-style! Variant covers? Check. Multiversal Scrooge McDucks? Check. Am I unironically really curious? Check. Plus there's a Carl Barks reprint backup to keep traditionalists happy!

  • DESTRO #1 - We've seen how Cobra Commander got his start, but now it's time for the other great GI Joe villain to get his time in the sun. James McCullen Destro XXIV is the world's most admired/despised arms manufacturer, but his industry has been thrown into upheaval due to the discovery of Energon. Not a man to take a challenge lying down, Detro makes a play to establish his part in the new world order. Dan Watters and Andrei Bressan get villainous!

  • COMICS (1964 - 2024) SC - This actually came in a few weeks back, but with more stock coming this week I feel like I should rectify the oversight of not pointing it out. Originally produced as a catalogue for a massive exhibition at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, this chunky tome gives an overview of the development of comics since the sixties across North America, Asia and Europe. Each section is themed and features a gobsmacking selection of original art from around the world, featuring the likes of Osamu Tezuka, Moebius, Alison Bechdel, Ulli Lust, Art Spiegelman, Marjane Satrapi and Chris Ware, among many, many others.

  • GALAXY OF MADNESS #1 - Magdalene Visaggio & Michael Avon Oeming collaborate on this new weird sci-fi story. In the 41st Century, at the edge of known space, the wonderfully-named Vigil Virgo is about to undertake a voyage into the unknow to learn the greatest secrets of the universe. Sounds like trouble!

  • DANDELION TP - An anthology graphic novel set in a future of environmental decline, where resources are controlled by the few, and a developing city in the skies is looking to disrupt everything. It's the brainchild of writer Sabir Pirzada, who worked on the Moon Knight and Ms Marvel tv shows, with a line-up of artists including Roy Allan Martinez, Martin Morazzo, Vanesa R. Del Rey, Gegê Schall, Juha Veltti, Adrian Rivero, Marquis Rogers & Thomas Campi.

  • WRITER #1 - Actor Josh Gad teams up with writers Ben and Max Berkowitz and artist Ariel Olivetti to spin a tale of a writer who must embody the hero of his script to overcome monstrous menaces.

  • MISERY #1 - Cyan Fitzgerald is the child of Al Simmons (aka Spawn) and Wanda Fitzgerald, embued with supernatural powers of her own. But as her abilities isolate her from the world, it's yet to be seen if they're for good or ill.

  • VENOMVERSE REBORN #1 - No deaths really last in the Marvel Universe, and that applies to multiverses as much as heroes. Al Ewing, Benjamin Percy, Christos Gage, Danilo Beyruth & Brian Level spread some symbiote goo around.

And that's it, friends! See you next week!
