The Gosh! Authority 20.08.25
Hello!
We've got a fun launch party for you this week, as the wonderful Dan White will be here on Friday, 7-9pm, to celebrate the release of Cindy & Biscuit Volume 2. Get your best monster-hunting gear on and head down to get a signed copy! Details here.
Don't forget that next week is a bank holiday, so the delivery will be arriving a little late. We're expecting to see the comics arriving to us Wednesday to go out then, so hopefully things will be on the shelves for lunchtime, but give us a shout if you're making a special trip. Pray to the courier gods!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- ESCAPE #1 - Rick Remender reteams with his old Uncanny Avengers collaborator Daniel Acuña for a new creator-owned series. It's an anthropomorphic story of war and survival as a crashed pilot tries to escape a warzone before his side drop the bomb that will destroy everyone and everything in the blast radius. Remender is always worth a try, because when he hits, he hits big. Especially given the calibre of artists he always works with.
- SPACE OPERA XANADAX ACROSS THE UNKNOWN DIMENSIONS OF THE GALAXY GN - If that title for Tom Scioli's latest graphic novel isn't a statement of purpose, I don't know what is. Fans of Scioli's Myth of 8-Opus will be overjoyed to see him return to the kind of cosmic madness that he made his name on (along with the superb Joe Casey collaboration Godland). Witness killer cybord Xanadax as he battles his way through a murderers row of utterly mad baddies, including Cosmic Enermy Number One!
- MARVEL ALL-IN-ONE #1 - Ryan North and Ed McGuinness lean into clobberin' time with this one-shot told entirely in splash pages and double page spreads. Ben Grimm returns to Earth after a mission, only to discover the whole world has turned against him, including his closest friends. Fight, fight, fight!
- JUSTICE LEAGUE RED #1 - Red Tornado leads a secret Justice League team in this new series by Saladin Ahmed & Clayton Henry. As he projects the coming threats that face the world, Red Tornado assembles teams to nip problems in the bud before they get out of control. Problems that may just include the JLU.
- EVENT HORIZON DARK DESCENT #1 - Christian Ward flexes his writing chops on a revisit to one of horror's most beloved films, joined by artist Tristan Jones. We only ever had gruesome flashes of the fate of the Event Horizon's original crew as they journeyed across the threshold to Hell. Now we're getting the whole story in this prequel that follows the experimental craft on its maiden voyage.
- BLACK CAT #1 - Felicia Hardy returns in a new series by G. Willow Wilson and Gleb Melnikov. She's turned over a new leaf and taken up a life of crime-fighting, taking on NYC's supervillains. But her old life has a way of coming back to haunt her.
- VENOM BLACK WHITE & BLOOD #1 - Well, I guess Venom is already there for the colour scheme! David Michelinie, Jonas Scharf, J.M. DeMatteis, Dave Wachter, Ryan North and Creees Lee tell tales set throughout Venom's history in stark black, white and red.
- EC ADDICT FANZINE #7 - The excellent EC fan publication returns for another bumper issue, probably its final one given the passing of legendary editor and comics historian Roger Hill. Finished by Grant Geissman, the issue contains the usual crop of articles on (and artwork from) all your favourite EC creators.
- EAT YOUR YOUNG #1 - A family of immortals turn on each other as a time called the Centurium approaches. Once every 100 years a 27 day window opens where the children of Edmund Irons, the immortal head of the family, can try to kill him and take his place, or lose their immortality. There can be only one! Err...Brian Buccellato and Mattia Monaco are behind this one.
- ALL-NEW SPIDER-GWEN GHOST SPIDER #1 - The continuing adventures of Gwen Stacey as she sets up shop in the 616 universe for good. Stephanie Phillips and Paolo Villanelli pick up where they left off with the previous series.
And that's it for now! Enjoy the comics!
Andrew.
