The Gosh! Authority 21.04.22
Hello!
Hope you all had a lovely Easter! Quick reminder: due to the bank holiday, this week's comics will be arriving to go out on Thursday. We're not sure what time that might be, but recent experience would indicate that we might receive the books early-mid afternoon, after which it'll take us a couple of hours to get them on the shelf. I'd recommend either visiting later in the day, otherwise everything will be out on the shelves from opening on Friday. Keep an eye on our social media, where we'll announce it once the comics are available.
In more positive new, Free Comic Book Day 2022 is coming! On Saturday 7th May we'll be opening at the early time of 10am for FCBD and for the first time since 2019, Gosh will be putting on an events programme for the day! Our ever-popular kids drawing table will run from 10am - 12pm, and then we will be having a signing with the incredible Kieron Gillen from 1pm-2pm! And of course we'll have literally thousands of comics to give away! As with the past couple of years we'll be doing blind bags of 5 comics with a purchase, and kids bags for free, available while stocks last. Please be patient and kind to staff and your fellow customers on the day, as it's a pretty crazy one. You can get all the details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- CAPTAIN AMERICA #0 - The new era for Captain America (or should we say Captain Americas) begins with this zero issue by writers Tochi Onyebuchi, Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly and artist Mattia De Iulis. Arnim Zola is back in town, and Sam and Steve have to team up to take him down. This one-shot acts as the launching point for two new series: Captain America Sentinel of Liberty, starring Steve Rogers, and Captain America Symbol of Truth starring Sam Wilson.
- SECRET HISTORY OF THE WAR ON WEED #1 - The old Deadpool gang of Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and Scott Koblish reteam to tell the true history of the Reagan era war on the demon weed. Nancy is on the warpath, and in an effort to stamp out marijuana production she sends in one-man army Scotch McTiernan. Satire at its broadest, acting as a love letter to OTT 80's action and a scathing broadside to the War on Drugs. Indeed, proceeds from this comic will be going to help assist those whose lives have been derailed by historic US government policy around drug use.
- DOCTOR STRANGE NEXUS OF NIGHTMARES #1 - One of the great Marvel editors of the past, Ralph Macchio seems to have carved himself out a nice little niche in recent years writing these kind of throwback one-shots. Easy to digest, done-in-one stories that aren't tied to continuity and distill the essence of the characters. This time it's Doctor Strange's turn, as he tackles the menace of Nightmare. Ibrahim Moustafa provides the art.
- VAMPIRE SLAYER #1 - A spell goes wrong, wiping Buffy's identity. With Sunnydale under attack, a new slayer must take up the mantle while Buffy's friends race to restore her memories. Some new Buffyverse shenanigans by Sarah Gailey and Irene Flores.
And that's it! Short and sweet this week. See you next time!
Andrew.
