The Gosh! Authority 21.08.24

Hello!

We're excited to welcome Leo Fox back this Friday, 7-9pm, for the launch of his latest book, Boy Island! Leo will be signing, chatting and raising a glass to his new graphic novel from Silver Sprocket, and you should too! Well, maybe not signing. Details here

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • WOLVERINE REVENGE #1 - Bloood! Actually, even if this book wasn't one of Marvel's polybagged gore-fests, it would be a big deal. Jonathan Hickman (aka Marvel Tom King) and Greg Capullo teaming up on a Wolverine comic? Yes please. looks like an action-packed tale of revenge as Wolvie looks to even the score with Sabretooth, Omega Red and Deadpool after a near-death experience.

  • JENNY SPARKS #1 - Tom King (aka DC Jonathan Hickman) teams up with superhot artist Jeff Spokes breathes some fresh life into the Wildstorm bunch with this mini-series that takes us back to the beginning of the 21st Century. Jenny Sparks is the spirit of the 20th Century made manifest, but the 21st is just too damn unruly to let her rest as Captain Atom goes off the deep end.

  • PREDATOR VS BLACK PANTHER #1 - Turns out the Predators are quite excited by this planet full of superhero prey, so after taking on the clawed Canuck, they're back for more. This time they have their scanners on Wakanda, and the precious vibranium that lies beneath it, not to mention its greatest hero. Benjamin Percy and Chris Allen play with the toys on this one.

  • STANDSTILL #1 - We haven't seen Andrew Robinson interiors in a while, so it's very exciting to have him on a whole series, here with writer Lee Loughridge. A time-stopping device has been stolen, taken by one of the world's most notorious criminals. That goes about as well as you might expect: murder, robbery and more, with no target safe. Only one man can stop this terrifying spree: the mild-mannered scientist who created the thing. Also it bears mentioning again: Andrew Robinson art!

  • PATRA #1 -  Ex-Gosh staff member (and okay, I guess, Starman writer) James Robinson teams up with Scott Kolins (who we're always happy to see) for the story of a young girl terrorized by a mysterious villain who is murdering his way through a Midwestern town. A love letter to 80s slasher films and all their weird, semi-supernatural trappings, as young Patra herself has some strange connection to a large knife and a magical mask that appear when she's in danger.

  • HUGE DETECTIVE #1 - Two detectives from different countries are forced to collaborate on a case involving a string of murders. The twist is that one of them is a literal giant, and the stakes are a fragile peace between humans and giants that came about after a war that nearly destroyed them both when the latter emerged from beneath the earth years ago. Adam Rose and Magenta King spin a fun-looking detective tale.

  • GIANT SIZE THOR #1 - Thor regular Al Ewing teams up with artist Brian Level for a standalone story co-starring the Prince of Power himself, Hercules! And if I know one thing, it's that Al Ewing writes a terrific Hercules. So expect a fun, probably funny, one-shot adventure.

  • VENOM WAR CARNAGE #1 - Carnage sticks his nose into the Venom War with this mini, brought to you by the team of Torunn Grønbekk & Pere Pérez. Turns out the symbiote-killing weapon he recently discovered might be quite useful given current circumstances.

  • VENOM WAR VENOMOUS #1 - The Black Widow (Venom Widow?) teams up with Agent Anti-Venom to investigate Alchemax experiments as the Venom War rages on. This one's from Erica Schultz & Luciano Vecchio.

  • NIGHT CLUB 2 #1 - Mark Millar's team of vampire superheroes are back, this time having a little civil war of their own over a bitter love rivalry. Vampire kids these days! Millar is joined once again by Juanan Ramirez.

And that's it for today, folks! See you next time!

Andrew.
