The Gosh! Authority 21.12.22

Hello-ho-ho!

Yep, Christmas is upon us, and while it's too late to order anything to be mailed out, we do still have digital gift cards available through the website that you can send to your loved ones on Christmas day. Click here to buy, and give the gift of graphic novels to your loved ones

("Oh, a graphic novel? That's....interesting." That's right, Aunty Priscilla, it IS interesting!)

Of course you can still come into the shop and grab something in person, and we're staying open until 8pm every day this week until Friday to help you do so. We do close at 2pm on Christmas Eve, though, so don't leave that shopping too late!

A reminder of the disruption with deliveries over the next two weeks. There will be a delivery between Christmas and New Year, arriving on Thursday 29th to go out same day, and again post-New Year the delivery will arrive on Thursday 5th to go out same day. Obviously when books are on the shelves will depend on delivery times and how long they take to process, but experience suggests we'll have it all on the shelves by early afternoon.

On with the comics. It's a modest one, with little in the way of new and notable books, so this will be brief!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • GROO: GODS AGAINST GROO #1 - On the plus side, a quiet week means I can lead the blog with a plug for Groo in this conclusion to to Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier's "Gods" trilogy. I miss regular Groo comics, with their daft humour and sublime Sergio art. Bit of trivia: I had a letter published in Groo #62 (Epic run). My proudest comics moment. They never published my letter I wrote to Uncanny X-Men in the mid-80s about how much I wanted a Colossus and Rogue romance, though. Philistines.

  • DEAD SEAS #1 - A new horror mini from Cavan Scott & Nick Brokenshire with a cool hook: ectoplasm can be used as a miracle medicine, and so floating prisons of ghosts are set at sea, with convicts given the chance to reduce their sentence by harvesting the supernatural goo. Gus Ortiz is one such, who steps into a situation described in breathless promo copy as The Poseidon Adventure meets The Haunting of Hill House. Sold!

  • MARY JANE AND BLACK CAT #1 - A Dark Web tie-in by Jed MacKay and Vincenzo Carratu starring MJ and Felicia, which sees them sucked into Limbo. But escaping is going to be tough, with each having secrets that the Goblin Queen's realm will use against them.

  • DARK WEB MS MARVEL #1 - And another Dark Web tie-in, this time by Sabir Pirzada and Francesco Mortarino. Kamala has started an internship at Oscorp, but as Limbo descends on NYC their cutting edge experiments go off the rails, leaving her fighting for her life. All well and good, but it seems mad there's not a proper Ms Marvel ongoing. Sort it out, Marvel.

  • ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE #1 - Robin Hobb's best-selling fantasy series gets a comics adaptation courtesy of Jody Houser and Ryan Kelly. It's a fantastic series of books, so here's hoping they do it justice.

And that, my friends, it it! I'm off next week, so you'll probably be hearing from Paul. Have a very Merry Christmas and a joyful New Year, and I'll see you all on the other side!
