The Gosh! Authority 22.01.25

Hello!

It's a rather uneventful week here at Gosh Towers, a quiet kind of January week. Needless to say, however, the comics keep rolling, both to our new releases shelves, and also to our ever-growing collection of small press titles! Do yourself a favour if you haven't already, and sign up to Greg's fortnightly small press newsletter where he highlights all the coolest stuff that's been coming through the door. You can do so right here!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • BOWLING WITH CORPSES AND OTHER STRANGE TALES FROM LANDS UNKNOWN HC - Mike Mignola takes one of his rare steps outside the world of Hellboy for this collection of all-new stories set in a world of folklore and fantasy. As he often does, Mignola takes his inspiration from real folk tales and puts his characteristic mix of gothic horror and gallows humour into the mix. A new short story from Mike Mignola is a happy surpise, but a whole book of them is a proper new year's treat!

  • DOCTOR DOOM & ROCKET RACCOON #1 - J. Michael Straczynski is writing a series of one-shots featuring unlikely pairings from across the Marvel universe, and here's the first! Teaming with artist Will Robson, JMS bangs his Doom and Rocket action figures together in a story involving Doom having to (gulp) ask for help from a certain space-faring furball. Future pairings include Captain America and Volstagg, Aunt May and Agatha Harkness, and Nick Fury and Fin Fang Foom. All sound pretty entertaining to me!

  • X-MEN XAVIER'S SECRET #1 - Collecting the Marvel Infinity digital comic by Alex Paknadel and Diógenes Neves for the first time in print. The Krakoan Age has ended, and as Jean Grey and Alex Summers spend one last night together before Jean's journey into space, they uncover a secret from the X-Men's past that may drive them apart and cast a dark shadow over the new future for mutants.

  • PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ #1 - Continuing Marvel's adaptations of L. Frank Baum's Oz novels, with Otis Frampton taking up the baton as writer and artist. Join Scraps, the titular patchwork girl, as she undertakes a journey with her vain glass cat and an unlucky lad named Ojo. Their goal is to unpetrify Scraps' creator and Ojo's uncle, and that's probably going to entail a trip to the Emerald City.

And that's all there is to it this week! A good chance to catch up on that unread pile...
