Plus there's also still time to get tickets for next week's Comica talk at the Century Club wth Craig Thompson! His latest, Ginseng Roots, is almost a shoo-in for our Best of the Year list, and Craig is always a fascinating, entertaining interview subject. He'll be chatting with Paul Gravett next Tuesday 30th from 7pm. Grab a ticket here!

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • SKINBREAKER #1 - Robert Kirkman brings an entirely new series to the table with phenomenal art by David Finch (who looks like he's been working on this thing for quite some time). It's the story of Anok, a reluctant heir to the leadership of his tribe, who is immediately faced with the challenge of aggressive invaders into their lands. There's also a version of the first issue in one of those crazy, oversized formats to showcase Finch's art, if you've got somewhere to store that kind of thing!

  • ORPHAN AND THE FIVE BEASTS BATH OF BLOOD #1 - The ever-so-welcome return of James Stokoe's love letter to over-the-top kung-fu fantasy comics. I'll be honest, after Orphan Mo only knocked off two of the five Beasts in the first mini-series (collected in a trade you should definitely get), I feared we'd never see her get to the other three. Well, we're going to get a little closer at least, as she's now on the trail of the third!

  • ULTIMATE HAWKEYE #1 - Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri spin off of the Ultimates with a one-shot focused on Charli Ramsey, the Ultimate Hawkeye. They're on a solo mission on the trail of the Maker, and the way things play out is looking to lead directly into Ultimate Endgame.

  • TWILIGHT ZONE #1 - The classic twist-in-the-tale morality show returns with this anthology series, each issue featuring a story by a diverse cast of creators. First up, picture if you will Dan Watters and Morgan Beem, a writer and an artist who are about to tell the story of some poor schlub who sees people turning into statues as he slips into...the Twilight Zone.

        • VIKING MOON #1 - Twenty years after Leif Erikson made a disastrous attempt at establishing a colony in what we would now think of as Newfoundland, off Eastern Canada, a new mission of colonisation is undertaken by Ulf and his fellow Vikings. But the rumours were true: the land is stalked by beasts who walk like men! Vikings vs werewolves, courtesy of Joe Pruett and Marcelo Frusin.

        • BATTLEWORLD #1 - Christos Gage and Marcus To return to the Secret Wars, and the patchwork planet of conflict known as Battleworld. While battling to survive, the transported inhabitants must also try to find out who has brought them here and why?

And that's it for another week, as Autumn continues to creep into our lives. Wrap up warm, stay inside, and read some comics!
