The Gosh! Authority 27.10.21

Hello!

So after last week's minnow of a delivery, this week sees a bit of a whale with a number of delayed titles hitting the shelves alongside the scheduled titles. Of course there are also delayed titles from this week, which is pretty much par for the course at the moment, and not looking to change any time soon. Still, doesn't mean there aren't some goodies to get stuck into this week...

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

  • HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER #1 - One of the year's biggest new releases, set in the world of smash hit title Something is Killing the Children. It's a perfect jumping-on point for new readers as this prequel series reveals more about the mysterious House of Slaughter, the secret order that trained Erica Slaughter in the ways of monster hunting. James Tynion IV is joined on writing duties by Tate Brombal, with Chris Shehan and Werther Dell'Edera on art.

  • DESTROY ALL MONSTERS HC - The third volume in Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Reckless series, and we're especially excited about this based on the terrific preceeding volume, Friend of the Devil. We've now moved on to 1988, and Ethan is about to get more than he bargained for when investigating a shady real estate mogul.

  • ASTERIX AND THE GRIFFIN HC - The 39th album of our indomitable Gaulish heroes, once again authored by the Uderzo-picked team of Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad, and this time on a quest to find the legendary Griffin.

  • BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN SPECIAL #1 - Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale return to the Long Halloween 25 years on from the original to reveal one of its lost secrets. One of the best-loved Batman tales revisited in what would seem to be a return of the annual Loeb/Sale Halloween specials!

  • BATMAN FORTNITE FOUNDATION ONE SHOT #1 - Basically I have to include this or my son will disown me. A one-shot that follows directly from the recent Batman Fortnite mini that brings the action to Gotham and is canonical to the game lore. And of course there's a download code for an in-game item: a Batman Who Laughs skin!

  • LEONARD COHEN ON A WIRE HC - A biography of the legendary singer/songwriter which joins him on the final night of his life. As we follow his last hours, he reflects on the moments of his life that helped to shape the figure he became. Not exactly a groundbreaking premise for a biography, but it's in the safe hands of Canadian creator Phillipe Girard who crafts a compelling, beautifully illustrated read out of it.

  • RED FLOWERS HC - The next collection in D&Q's library of influential mangaka Yoshiharu Tsuge. This a lighter collection of stories than last year's The Swamp, and documents the day-to-day life of everyday Japanese citizens with gentle observational wit.

  • HELLBOY THE SILVER LANTERN CLUB #1 - A look back into the history of the mysterious Silver Lantern Club by Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson and one of the Mignola-verse's best artists, Ben Stenbeck.

  • NITA HAWES NIGHTMARE BLOG #1 - A new series set in the world of hit horror title Killadelphia. Rodney Barnes and Jason Shawn Alexander head back to Baltimore, where Killadelphia star Jimmy Sangster's ex Nita Hawes has remained. Nita is determined to fight the rising tide of evil that threatens to swallow her city. Her only ally? The ghost of her dead brother.

  • DC VS VAMPIRES #1 - Speaking of getting your halloween on, those of a more cape-ish persuasion might want to check out this little number by Matthew Rosenberg and James Tynion IV with art by Otto Schmidt. Over the course of this 12 issue mini, the Justice League will battle against a hidden order of the undead who have decided their time for conquest is NOW! Solid creative team, so I'll be giving this a shot.

  • TASK FORCE Z #1 - If that seems like not enough of a horror high concept for you, what about Suicide Squad....but ZOMBIES! Red Hood leads a team of recently deceased villains in this series by Matthew Rosenberg and Eddie Barrows. Rosenberg is a good choice for balancing silly and serious, so I'm quite hopeful for this.

  • AQUAMAN GREEN ARROW DEEP TARGET #1 - A seven issue mini-series to celebrate the 80th anniversaries of Aquaman and Green Arrow. Ollie and Arthur are on the trail of the organisation known as Scorpio, who's time-travelling heists are altering the timeline. Brandon Thomas and Ronan Cliquet are at the helm of this one.

  • GUNSLINGER SPAWN #1 - One of the most popular Spawn characters gets his own series thanks to the Toddster himself, Ales Kot and Phillip Tan.

And that's it for this week! See you next time!
