The Gosh! Authority 28.10.20
Hello!
Happy Halloween, all! To be honest, it's all a bit of a damp squib this year compared to what's going on around us, but maybe that's a perfect time to escape with a little silly spookery. Maybe catch some favourite old movies, pick up some great horror comics, or just watch some of the best Treehouse of Horror episodes!
Anything to escape this never-ending nightmare for a few hours. This soul-destroying crush of monotonous motion we now have to pass off as our lives as we slip ever further, ever deeper into the yawning black well of viral oblivion, a microscopic harbinger of the environmental catastrophe to come as we....
Ahem, anyway, on with the comics!
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- BLUE IN GREEN GN (WITH GOSH!-EXCLUSIVE SIGNED SCRIPT EXCERPT) - The latest book from Ram V and his Grafity's Wall artist Anand RK is getting a lot of heat right now, and is certainly one of our most anticipated books of the year. Blue in Green (taking it's name from the classic Miles Davis track) is a psychological horror set in the world of jazz. It's about legacy and obssession in the pursuit of creativity, with stunning art and storytelling that marks a new high water mark for its creators.
We like it so much, we've produced a small script excerpt booklet with Ram's script for the first 17 pages of the book. Limited to just 100 copies, the numbered booklets are signed by Ram V and can be ordered from our webstore now!
- GIGA #1 - Already sold out at the publisher, Alex Paknadel and John Le's science fiction tale about humanity living in the bodies of dormant giant mechs looks great. The world has changed dramatically, with society controlled by a mech-worshipping, fascist religious order who are thrown into chaos when one of the mechs is found to be dead.
- AVATAR LAST AIRBENDER KATARA & PIRATES SILVER GN - Man, ever since Avatar reappeared on Netflix recently people have been going nuts for Dark Horse's further adventures of Ang and the gang. Frustratingly they're mostly temporarily unavailable right now, but this week see the release of a brand new book focusing on Katara as she falls in with a group of pirates after being separated from the others. Faith Erin Hicks and Peter Wartman do the honours. And we're also seeing the omnibus edition of the second graphic novel trilogy, The Search, this week too!
- COLONEL WEIRD COSMAGOG #1 (OF 4) - The much-delayed Colonel Weird story releases at last! In this Black Hammer spin-off, the good Colonel embarks on a journey through time and space courtesy of Jeff Lemire and the always incredible Tyler Crook!
- X OF SWORDS STASIS #1 - We're halfway through X of Swords, and with this one shot by Tini Howard, Jonathan Hickman, Mahmud Asrar & Pepe Larraz, things look to be kicking up a notch as the fight really begins in earnest between the champions of Krakoa and Arrako.
- DARK NIGHTS DEATH METAL RISE OF THE NEW GOD #1 - It's Perpetua vs The Batman Who Laughs as told by Bryan Hill and Jesús Merino!
- LYTTON #1 - Here's a curious thing: a licensed title by small publisher CutAwayComics featuring an obscure Doctor Who character from the 5th/6th Doctor era. Gustave Lytton was a shady mercenary who would go on to work from the Daleks and the Cryons, but here he's the co-owner of a Soho nightclub in the 70's who is just learning about the existence of alien menaces.
And that's that! Stay safe and have a spooky week!
Andrew.
