The Gosh! Authority 30.10.24
Hello...
...and happy Halloween!
This Wednesday, October 30th, sees a launch party for Phantom Hearts, the new supernatural mystery by Rosie Talbot and Sarah Maxwell. Rosie and Sarah will be here from 7-9pm, so come help celebrate! Details here.
And then dust off your best costumes for the 31st and come down to party with Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans for the release of We Called Them Giants, their latest collaboration. The pair will be in store from 7-9pm to sign and toast their new OGN, and dressing up is encouraged! Details here.
HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
- WE CALLED THEM GIANTS HC - A young woman in foster care awakes to find the world nearly deserted in this new original story by the Die team of Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans. As Lori struggles to survive in this new, dangerous world, mysterious giants arrive with their own hidden agendas. As ever with this creative team, you can expect a seamless blend of entertaining action and thought-provoking layered meaning. Note that this will only be available this week for the launch event, then go on general sale next week!
- ACME NOVELTY DATEBOOK HC VOL 03 - The long-awaited 3rd collection of Chris Ware's notebooks and sketcbooks, giving an increcible amount of access to his process. These have always been fascinating reads. Ware's finished work is so polished and precise that seeing the rough concept work that begins that journey is quite a revelation. A must-have for budding creators and curious rubberneckers alike.
- COME FIND ME AN AUTUMNAL OFFERING #1 - Becky Cloonan spearheads a Halloween anthology special in the lovely, artwork-showcasing DSTLRY format. With a creative line-up including Becky Cloonan, Celine Loup, E. M. Carroll, Molly Mendoza, Vanesa R. Del Rey, Joe Pavelka and HamletMachine, this is sure to be a cut above the many, many Halloween anthologies we've seen this year!
- I, DRAGON BOOK ONE SC - The first of three volumes translating the late, great Juan Giménez's final work into English for the first time. Apparently tired of science fiction after finishing the Metabarons, Giménez decided to go down the route of medieval fantasy, dropping dragons into 13th Century Europe. We begin with a castle under siege as the bastard of a lost royal line has returned to claim her throne.
- POISON IVY SWAMP THING FERAL TREES #1 - A green-themed one-shot by G. Willow Wilson and Mike Perkins that sees Ivy and Swampy team up at the behest of the Parliament of Trees to take on a corruption in the Green. Expect this to lean heavily into the horror angle. It's October, after all!
- IT HAPPENED ON HYDE STREET DEVOUR #1 - A Hyde Street jumbo-sized one-shot by Maytal Zchut and Leila Leiz. Concerned about losing weight before her wedding, Lily is struggling to shed some pounds. Her grandmother encourages her to seek the help of Miss Goodbody, a quick-fix health guru who peddles a mysterious dietary supplement called Devour. No good will come it, mark my words!
- DC VERSUS MARVEL OMNIBUS HC - A brief peace treaty has been called between the worlds of Disney and Warner to collect the many intercompany crossovers from 1976 to 2000. From Superman vs the Amazing Spider-Man to Batman Daredevil, they're all here in a volume that will not be going back to print any time soon. No DC vs Marvel mini-series itself, though: that'll be getting its own special collection, as will the Amalgam Universe stuff.
- VENOM WAR FANTASTIC FOUR #1 - When Kang and Doom get their armoured little fingers involved in the Venom War, that's time for the FF to get involved. Bit slack if you ask me: the city overrun with symbiote zombies and only now do they deem to get involved? What's the matter, Reed? Not cosmic enough for you? Anyway, this one-shot is steered by the capable hands of Adam Warren and Joey Vazquez.
- PENGUIN SPECIAL #1 - A little bundle of great Penguin tale reprints to cash in on...err....celebrate the hit Max series! Featuring the likes of Alan Grant, Jason Aaron, Bill Finger, Jason Pearson and many, many more!
And that's that! Have a spooky week!
Andrew.
