A collection of the first 4 issues of Weird Comic Magazine, published by Eerie Publications in 1966. Golden Age vets Bob Powell, Joe Doolin, Carl Burgos (Human Torch) and Robert Webb (Sheena, Planet Comics). Some stories were “reanimated” from the Golden Age. A massive 208 pages of horror comics introduced by Morris the Caretaker. The first issue kicks off with a new Frankenstein story from the monster’s own standpoint. Issues #2 and 3 have painted covers by the great Bob Powell. This ran for 14 issues. The comics are in black and white (same format as all the Warren magazines) and the covers are reproduced in mind-searing color. The publisher figured to fool readers into thinking the magazine was long running and successful already, so they started the first issue with #10 and proceed on. Some pre-code comics publishers also did this weird numbering thing. Also in the first issue: A scientist is examining a set of mummy’s eyes from Cairo when the eyes’ owner returns to claim them. The Trumpet that will signal the Apocalypse falls into the hands of homeless Gabriel, who’s only too ready to use it. Frankenstein; Coward’s Curse; Deadly Pickup; Doomed; Devil’s Bride; Creatures From the Deep; The Terror of Akbar; Trumpet of Doom. And that’s all just from the first issue.
