During the late 80s and early 90s, when the Dark Knight was returning again and readers contemplated who watched the Watchmen, the likes of Escape and Deadline gave glimpses of the broadening of the comic form to come; and had begin t o air work from fresh talent with that exact mindset - when the bubble burst.
Creators honing their skills on their own terms, more often than not in the form of A5 photocopied 'zines' were left high and dry... but driven by a pure love of the art form they continued to create, regardless.
