Drink and Draw with Katriona Chapman, Candice Purwin and Mark Stafford

We're back! Pack the pencil cases and line those stomaches, because our monthly Drink and Draw with Broken Frontier is in session! As always we'll be joined by our resident cartoonist Mark Stafford and this month we've invited two Fantagraphics artists Katriona Chapman and Candice Purwin! Join us on Friday 29th May 2026, from 6.30pm.

We celebrate our 40th birthday this year and Fantagraphics, who produce some of our favourite comics, will also be celebrating with its 50th anninversary, so we're using this excuse to have a little party at our Drink & Draw this month. Candice Purwin has recently released The Book of Murmurs (which we're also hosting a special signing tomorrow!) and Katriona Chapman released The Pass earlier this year (which we also hosted an event for).

So, what is a Drink and Draw? Well, it's in the name! We'll host an evening of drawing with our guest comic artists, all while having a few drinks together, alcholic and non alcholic. Mark Stafford, our resident cartoonist, will be a regular face at the monthly event, being joined by two guest artists every time. We'll meet at Gosh! for 6.30pm, where they'll be a chance to mingle with the artists and check out their comics, before we head over to The Royal George for 7pm. Once everyone has grabbed a seat and a drink, we'll start three short rounds of drawing, with each guest artist setting their own drawing theme. Gosh! will have the artists work on sale and even have some prizes for their favourite drawings! We will aim to wrap up by 9.30pm, but staying afterwards to continue the fun is more than welcome.

Broken Frontier and ourselves have been running the Drink & Draws since 2015 and we've been lucky enough to have had over 200 guest artists attend! It will be hosted by Broken Frontier's wonderful Andy Oliver and Gosh's Will Humberstone.

Look forward to seeing you all on Friday 29th May, from 6.30pm. There will be limited seating available at the Royal George and seating will be prioritised to those who were at the shop first.
